Estrella Comparison

JP may look like him walk like him but he doesn't play anything like McHale. He isn't 1% of the player McHale was
Are you comparing a sophmore JP Estrella to the NBA version of McHale? If so, that's hardly a fair comparison. If you want to compare the two players, look at Kevin McHale's sophmore year at Minnesota and compare that with Estrella this year, who by the way, has been limited to 11 minutes of playing time for nearly half his games due to injury.

I assume the 1% reference is hyperbole.

McHale, who was great alongside the Chief, just silently killed you all game long. JP has that same ability. And everyone needs to realize you cannot compare JP to a ten year NBA Kevin McHale. Apples to apples, probably were similar at this stage of development. I think JP has an edge on defending right now. He can guard on perimeter and sink back into the paint with ease. He has a lot of catching up to do because injuries, but I like the kid. Lot of upside for him.

Devoe beat McHale the Monday after the 1979 Volunteer Classic in Stokely. Reggie Johnson. Howard Wood. Dale Ellis. Bert Bertelkamp. Gary Carter. Steve Ray. Kevin Nash. I’m not sure when Carter and Nash left the program.

Did you even bother to read what OP stated? He acknowledged your point that he is not anywhere near as good as hall of famer McHale, but asserted that his physical traits reminded him stylistically of McHale.

I really like Estrella’s game, and it seems he is a really hard worker / wants to improve in all aspects of his game. I think come March Madness . . . If healthy (key words) he will be a matchup nightmare for other teams.

I think it’s likely he has only scratched the surface of the player he could become. Again, all of that depends on remaining healthy. I have serious doubts that he plays all year.
