OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

I’ve actually lost a friend over a job promotion. We were both in the running to become manager but I got it over him because I performed better and my numbers proved it. He immediately turned in his notice and moved somewhere else. We haven’t spoken since unfortunately. 💩 happens in life. Get over it and move on with your life.

D-1 athletes are competitors. They have ultimate belief in their own abilities so they sign up to compete. Once they see they can’t compete with “the guy” at their current school, they shift gears.
No differnt then a guy that was over looked (Pavia) that thinks he can compete at a higher level and rolls the dice.
I don’t understand belittling someone because you have you have a different opinion about a situation that you have never been in.
If I wanted to belittle I would start name calling you. I’m not doing that. I’m just stating my beliefs and my viewpoint. You clearly don’t agree with it so either drop it and move on or continue to disagree and respond for no reason. Nobody is going to change the other person’s opinion. I don’t know what to tell you.

Ok let us start GM this year instead of going and getting an experienced QB. We would be sitting at 5-5 at best right now with losses to Mississippi State and Arkansas. Josh Heupel has his own ass to look out for, not the fans or Freshman pouting because they can’t crack the starting lineup.
So what it's the process, fans are so obsessed with winning a National Championship is laughable... Screw the underclassmen that have talent.. I hope you get your way and GM leaves...that should make you happy...

So I guess we should have never taken Dalton Knecht? Chaz Lanier? Okpara? Gillespie? Hooker? Brazzell? Hood? McCoy? Man I’m glad our coaches actually leverage the portal instead of sitting on their hands like Dabo. We could be Clemson right now having a floundering season but our coaches actually give a damn about their program and their success so they are going out and getting talent when they see fit. “Do it the right way” like Dabo and see how far it gets you in today’s Wild West era.

Faizon looks like the better prospect anyways so it won’t hurt my feelings one way or another. Only one QB can play at a time and if I’m choosing one to keep it is definitely Faizon.

Most people have empathy for folks when they are met with adversity or that are put in difficult situations. This is a very difficult decision for a young adult, his family, and his advisers. He didn’t ask for it, but he has decisions to make. Which by the way, he has not made yet.

Every program is losing players they don’t want to see leave. It’s part of it with how the rules (or lack of rules) are. It’s the NFLjr now and the sooner people start realizing that the better. Root for your team, not the individuals. Traditional college football is no more and the days of having 4 year players across your roster are going to be few and far between.

Whatever dude.... If Brandon falls on his face you guys will want to run him out of town ..... Fans are idiots.
Yes, yes I will. This is entertainment. If you don’t want to be criticized as a player then don’t have aspirations to become a professional athlete and choose a different career path 🤷‍♂️

I will have empathy for the person, not the athlete. This is a kids game for which they are getting paid hundreds of thousands to millions now so forgive me if I don’t care about the athlete side. They will be fine whenever it’s all said and done and he will have a head start in life with all that money.

I'm glad you brought DK up. Morons on this site said he was the best player ever to play at Tennessee... BS....
I still say it’s Bernard King even though I was never thought of whenever he played at Tennessee. Knecht is the best player I have seen in-person. And I was the biggest Lofton fan. That Auburn game was a thing of beauty 🤌

If you're a HC and AFRAID you're going lose your job and run to portal every year to grab a 4th or 5th year QB, then don't recruit 4* and 5* QB's to stand on sidelines...

I’m sure Heupel will take our thoughts into consideration when constructing his roster. You get fired after 5-3 in today’s world. You can’t put all your eggs into that 4/5 star. We lost a QB and needed to replace him on the roster. You really think it’s in the best interest of the team to carry 2 QBs you feel halfway decent about at best, or go get one that can compete for the starting job? If Joey got here in the summer and won the starting job by fall camp, what does that say about the other 2 QBs? I think Heupel made the right decision for his team.

Tennessee Vols... Like you stated you're to young to remember those guys playing...
I remember playing with Allan Houston on my NBA Live games because he went to Tennessee and could shoot the lights out. He was awesome in the 3 point contests on those games. If you shoot 40% for an entire NBA career that tells me all I need to know. I wish I could have seen him play in-person at Tennessee.
