If GM is good enough then he will beat out Faizon whenever that time comes. Also, if you are a backup QB, you are always just one play away from being the guy. Maybe these young guys should stop jumping ship and ruining their own career path.My rant of the night.
I hate it for George McIntyre if Aguilar gets another year. The young man bleeds Tennessee Orange and has ate , lived and breathed Tennessee.. now if Aguilar comes back and everyone's WONDER BOY Faizon Brandon is here I don't see GM having a shot at his dream of being QB of the Vols. My worst nightmare is GM transfers and goes elsewhere in SEC and comes back and torches the Vols.
For heavens sake do away with all these extra years players can play in college.. the younger kids are suffering...
Maybe Coaches should quit running to portal looking for a QB to win National Championship every year when they already have 4* and 5* standing on sidelines holding clipboards..If GM is good enough then he will beat out Faizon whenever that time comes. Did Joey ruin his career path when he “jumped ship” to Tennessee. Or, did he sculpt his resurrection? Serious question. If GM is good enough then he will beat out Faizon whenever that time comes. Those two players leveled up to the Power 4. We are talking about making linear moves. There is a huge difference in playing for Diablo Valley Community College/Appalachian State and New Mexico Military Institute/New Mexico State vs playing in the SEC. If you commit to a SEC school out of high school then you are probably going to be 2nd string at most. Only the elite guys start as Freshman, and even those guys have to sit sometimes.Did Joey ruin his career path when he “jumped ship” to Tennessee. Or, did he sculpt his resurrection? Same question in regards to Diego at Vandy?
Ok let us start GM this year instead of going and getting an experienced QB. We would be sitting at 5-5 at best right now with losses to Mississippi State and Arkansas. Josh Heupel has his own ass to look out for, not the fans or Freshman pouting because they can’t crack the starting lineup.Maybe Coaches should quit running to portal looking for a QB to win National Championship every year when they already have 4* and 5* standing on sidelines holding clipboards..
If it were your son who was all everything his entire career and he had options to live out a dream, are you telling him to throw it all way and ride the pine until retirement? Those two players leveled up to the Power 4. They knew whenever they committed they were likely sitting behind Nico anyways so it’s no different. Don’t commit to a school with an already entrenched 5 star waiting his turn. That’s my advice, and that’s what I would tell my son. Go to the place where the deck would be stacked in your favor. Tennessee is always going to recruit a good QB so if you don’t want to compete for the job then don’t go there. If it were your son who was all everything his entire career and he had options to live out a dream, are you telling him to throw it all way and ride the pine until retirement?
Don’t give me loyalty, commitment B.S. there is none of that at any level anymore.
If you get recruited over, and can make a splash somewhere else, roll the dice. You miss every shot you don’t take.
So you commit to your dream University. The starter in front of you has Pro aspirations. You have to sit and learn for 1 maybe 2 years. They knew whenever they committed they were likely sitting behind Nico anyways so it’s no different. GM was never promised the starting job. The only thing he was promised was an opportunity to compete for the job. This is the same thing Tony Vitello did in recruiting and nobody has a problem it. Your job as a head coach is to assemble the most talented roster you can, and Heupel is doing that. This is a crash course on how the real world works. If someone doesn’t think you are truly ready or they can find someone better than you they will do it in a heartbeat. That’s how business works. They don’t care about you, they only care about themselves whenever it comes down to it because it’s their company/organization to run, not yours. If people want to bitch and moan about business decisions then run your own business. So you commit to your dream University. The starter in front of you has Pro aspirations. Then the starter bolts. In year two. You coach gets an insurance policy. Now your sitting for 1 maybe two more years.
Now apply it to yourself. You are next in line for a promotion at work. Your boss has told you, you’re the man for the last year or so. A hot shot new hire comes in and gets “your job”. Are you okay with it? Your attitude would certainly change.
It’s easy to wave your wand and judge others when it doesn’t involve you, and you don’t have all the information.
D-1 athletes are competitors. They have ultimate belief in their own abilities so they sign up to compete. Once they see they can’t compete with “the guy” at their current school, they shift gears.George McIntyre committed on 1/22/24, knowing Nico was going into his RS Freshman season. Nobody could’ve predicted how the Nico situation played out at that time, so why are you committing to a school like that where you would be sitting at minimum 2 years anyways? Don’t give me this “awe poor guy” nonsense. He could have gone to nearly any school in the country but he chose Tennessee because he loves Tennessee. Maybe he likes the challenge of competing for his home state university and if he doesn’t end up becoming QB1 then it was worth it anyways because he got to play for his favorite team. Ever think to ask him???
