yep, agree--- if he's medically not cleared at all then he shouldn't play... But if he can play and is choosing not to, then what I said should be completely reasonable... I've had 3 knee surgeries myself in my younger days (wrestling) and depending what the sport consists of in terms of knee support, timing is different. He's completely "healed" at this point in terms of ligaments/tendons/soft tissue and has gotten the best nutrition and rehab you can get... now it's about reps at the stress point... they keep talking about the fact he's still swelling, which may be the reason they won't release him if the swelling info is true.Ok, the kid is less than a year out ACL surgery. Only people with no clue or experience with these matters thinks it is unreasonable that he is not ready. Personally I thought he was done when he got injured, had no imagination that he would be back at all. Coming back in 6-8 months is miraculous, it takes a year.
I think you're not too far off base. If it were a pulled hammy, you're spot on.I’m a Tennessee Vols fan, first and foremost. McCoy prepping for an NFL career while giving us nothing this year doesn’t sit right if he’s well enough to do so. The asset that is to Tennessee is marginal at best.
Are we supposed to put athletes with standout sophomore and junior seniors in the infirmary now so we can protect their draft stock?
Don’t get me wrong, root for our NFL VFLs, this just irks me.
Sam LeavittI think the Vols should go after the best QB they can buy in the portal this year. Player loyalty is not guaranteed in the post-NIL/transfer portal world. There's no guarantee that GMac or Faizon stay with the Vols even if they are given the keys to the kingdom early (see Nico). They could also easily get hurt or bust. We should be putting the best product on the field each year and let the chips fall where they may. If we win and we offer competitive compensation, we will keep good players even if they sit for an extra year.
I know teams can still be good with an unproven, green QB (see Sayin at OSU or Ty at Bama), but is that the risk you want to take? We've seen what this offense looks like when it's executed by a competent QB. I don't want to go back to forcing a rook to a baptism by fire to see what we have.
I try to stay out of this debate but I just want to point out that McCoy has been, and still is, working to get back from his ACL. If you want to classify that as prepping for an NFL career, I guess you're not technically wrong but it seems disingenuous. No one has at all indicated he's saving himself for the draft. He wore pads in practice for the first time last week. All indications are he's making progress. I'm confused as to why expectations were he'd be the fastest guy ever to return from injury at one of the positions that requires so much of the knees. It's been 10 months!I’m a Tennessee Vols fan, first and foremost. McCoy prepping for an NFL career while giving us nothing this year doesn’t sit right if he’s well enough to do so. Turf toe is horrible. It can last for a very long time. I can’t believe he has played with it on both feet. They have to be numbing them some how before the game lolTurf toe is not a short-term injury-----I doubt he will be anywhere near 100% for the rest of the year. That's similar to the high ankle sprain----long term recovery
