I follow Tech and TSU some because they are Nashville and that's about it.
I forgot to mention TSU.......I coached there so I obviously have a rooting interest there as well.

TSU is a sleeping giant ............don't get me started on that.

I guess to an extent I follow UT Martin but I honestly sometimes forget they exist. And I certainly won't be pulling for them Saturday.

UT Martin may have something good brewing with their basketball team this season. Big game with Fla St tonight.
Leonard Hamilton game........"Fear the Spear" Go 'Noles

Recruited Fly to Peay as well.

Very disappointing first half, down 10-3 at halftime. Tech had a chance with first and goal at the end of the half but a bad play call on 1st down and dropped TD pass on 2nd down pretty much killed that chance so they settled for 3.

Really hope they respond in the second half.

Yeah, I unfortunately agree with that. The worst part of rooting for an FCS program outside of the Dakotas and Montana is knowing that they’ll likely never win it all since those schools always crush them by 50 in the end. FCS is simply too skewed towards them and it’s one reason I don’t pay much attention to it.

But a couple of playoff wins is 100% doable. Never thought I’d be able to say that about TN Tech.
WKU won the FCS (then Division 1-AA) national title in 2002.

Tech is the #13 seed and hosts North Dakota next Saturday.

I’m not sure how seeding works but it’s odd to me that Tech was ranked #8 last week but ends up a #13 seed behind other teams they are ranked ahead of.

Tech got freaking hosed in the pairings.
Total BS. I know the OVC/Big Sky isn't the best conference, but #13 seed is f'ed up!

I am only a casual viewer of FCS so someone would need to explain to me, but I don't see how Tech can be ranked #8 from the last polls but end up behind some of these teams.

South Dakota is ranked #21 but got a 12 seed.
Stephen F. Austin is ranked #13 but got a 7 seed and a bye.
UC Davis is ranked #14 but got an 8 seed and a bye.
Rhode Island is ranked #9 and got a 9 seed, I don't really have a problem with that one.
Abilene Christiana is ranked #18 but got a 10 seed.

Villanova actually got hosed with a #12 seed because they are ranked #7.

So again, I have no idea how they came up with the seeding. The top 6 seeds make sense but after that it's like they threw darts.

Yeah, that was bogus. Hopefully it will help some that the pairing is North Dakaota and not NDSU.

So I did some reading and I can buy that Tech's schedule was pretty weak and the OVC/Big South was pretty weak. They only beat 1 teams with a winning record (Garner Webb) and 2 .500 teams (UT Martin and Lidenwood). I can buy lack of quality wins compared to some of the other teams but still seems like they should have gotten at least a Top 10 seeding.

Great to see this posted. I mentioned TTU in another thread. Son is a senior there. He doesn't really follow sports but he's excited about how well they doing.
So, you're implying that your progeny is a dedicated skirt chaser?

FCS is 24 teams, so the Top 8 get 1st round byes. The 2nd 8 get seeded and host. The 3rd 8 get seeded and travel. FCS tries to bust up regional match ups in the 1st 2 rounds to it is more of a national tournament until deeper rounds. So, seems some of the odd seeding is to avoid a host of regional matchups in the early round. If a proper seeding will pair up half the 1st round in regional matchups they will jockey the seedings around to make national games. Right, wrong or indifferent that's kinda how they like to line the bracket up.

The really messed up part is TnTech was ranked #8 going into the Ut-Martin game, and won it, and won the conference, but got bumped out of #8 and lost the bye. Undefeated in FCS level play. ACU, is kinda hard to say. They played 2 FBS games (Tulsa & TCU), and one FCS OOC. Went 7-1 in conference & co-champs. Only logical argument is if they felt OVC/Big South alliance was too weak a conference come seeding time.

Yeah, I also forgot cost is a consideration. This is FCS so it's not like travel budgets and all are remotely on the same level as FBS teams.

I found it interesting that after going all these years without allowing their teams to participate in the playoffs, the Ivy League actually got 2 teams in because Yale upset Harvard to win the conference and that was Harvard's only loss. Which I still think if UT Martin had won Saturday the OVC/BS would have gotten both UTM and TTU in; I'm sure secretly the conference was pulling for a UTM upset.

Also didn't realize Tech is moving to the Southern Conference next year. That will leave only 6 remaining OVC football schools and 2 Big South. Seems like a better fit though, Tech can play Chattanooga and ETSU every year.

Welp, can't really whine about seeding then not show up to play. Tech is only down 3-0 but probably will be more before half and the offense has played terribely. Tech's QB is having an awful day, he's fumbled twice now.

Wow. That’s getting waxed by a 7 win team in the playoffs.

Yeah, pretty much puts to bed any talk about Tech being screwed in seeding. The game was actually closer than the score but turnovers killed Tech. Not all his fault but Tech's QB Visperas picked a bad day to have probably his worst game. He was responsible for 5 turnovers (2 ints, 3 fumbles).

Also, ND was a 7 win team but they play in the MV and it's the best conference in FCS that got 6 teams in the FCS playoffs and includes powerhouses North Dakota St. and South Dakota St.

Plus ND's losses were all close. They lost 38-35 to Kansas St., lost 24-23 to Montana, 26-21 to South Dakota, 15-10 to North Dakota St., and 34-31 to South Dakota St. So 5 losses all to a P4 FBS team and 4 FCS Playoff teams.

So when you break it down like that and compare ND and Tech's schedules....yeah not that surprised now.

Since this became a de facto FCS Playoff talking thread, pretty crazy how North Dakota St. was upset this past Saturday.
