Just wanted to throw out some props to the TTU Golden Eagles, they are quietly having probably their best season ever at 9-0 and currently ranked 8th in the FCS Coaches Poll (as of last week, new one isn't out yet). They are in the driver's seat for the OVC-Big South Championship and the automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs but likely already have an at large bid wrapped up. They probably won't go 12-0 since they have to go to Kentucky but hey it's Stoops so you never know.

I watched a bit of the game Saturday, their stadium is still going through upgrades but looked like they had a pretty good crowd and that's good because at one point I Think they were lucky to draw 1000.

Woukd love to see them win it all. Won’t hold my breath, but I wasn’t expecting them to be this good at all. Insane turnaround.

Hope they give Kentucky a big fat L next weekend.

Great to see this posted. I mentioned TTU in another thread. Son is a senior there. He doesn't really follow sports but he's excited about how well they doing.

I doubt they will, a team like North Dakota St. would likely boat race them but if they can get in an win a playoff game or 2 that would be pretty awesome.

Yeah, I unfortunately agree with that. The worst part of rooting for an FCS program outside of the Dakotas and Montana is knowing that they’ll likely never win it all since those schools always crush them by 50 in the end. FCS is simply too skewed towards them and it’s one reason I don’t pay much attention to it.

But a couple of playoff wins is 100% doable. Never thought I’d be able to say that about TN Tech.

Mine is senior there too. Stadium gonna look fantastic when it's finally done. They are hoping to switch everybody to the new home side next season and level the old home side. Not sure if they'll make it. They've overhauled the entire campus.

That's my take. They'll do fine until they get paired with one of those MVC teams. And they move to a tougher SoCon next year, so hopefully this is not short lived.

That coach is maybe in year 2 or 3 now. He did pretty well in the portal with some leftovers that didn't get picked up. Got Eastern Washingtons QB, and he had like 20 TD's going into the GW game.

Yeah I think a program like Tech, winning the conference and making the playoffs is pretty much what I would consider the ultimate prize for them.

I only really usually start paying attention to the lower divisions until playoff time but I've noticed the same problem with D2 and D3, they have their own Dakotas and Montana there. Ferris St. is currently that team in D2 and Mount Union and North Central in D3.

I graduated from TTU in '83 and '85. I had a job during Christmas break one year programming the football scoreboard for the upcoming season. The press box was not heated. Lonely and cold.....except for the one time my girlfriend visited.

Another time, we played football on the field during a snow storm of several inches. A buddy of mine broke his leg and we had to load him up in a car and get him to the hospital in the middle of the snow storm.

Tech was in the midst of the nation's longest losing streak while I was there. When we finally broke the streak, students stormed the field and tore down the goalposts.

Good memories.

I was at TTU from '77-'82 (Chemistry). I remember that snowstorm. I also remember that winter when the temp got to about minus 16. We were in Tech Village and with the cinderblock walls, we about froze.

What exactly is the attraction of North and South Dakota to attract players at this level?

I have been to 49 states only missing North Dakota. A guy told me one time, "well you picked a good place to go to last!":)

Have been to South Dakota and really enjoyed the Black Hills but don't think I would want to go to college there.

Good luck to the Eagles against UK. We have a former TTU running back from the 60s(Terry Parks) in our breakfast group and he has kept us informed on their great season.

Best I can figure, there are a few concentrated areas of FCS/DII/DIII hotbeds for quality football outside the P4/G6 saga.

The midwest/upper mid-west/upp great plains area is one of them. The FCS Missouri Valley Conference & Big Sky Conf areas has a host of strong FCS football and good schools all the way down to DIII, which would include MI & MN and out through Montana as well. Strong probablity the FCS champ will come from one of htese conferences any given year, with a few outliers such as Rhode Island on occasion.

In the MVC, only 3 teams have losing records overall. Compared to just about every other FCS conference where only 3-4 have winning records. One could reasonably argue the MVC is the SEC of FCS.

I'm with you though, other than power FCS football if you didn't get a big boy offer, not sure what the attraction of going to school up there is.

I’m glad to see TTU having a good season. I got my master’s degree there and really liked the school, though I’ve never followed their sports teams that closely.

Well Tech loses at UK big, but Saturday plays UT-Martin for the OVC/Big South Championship and the automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs.

Glad they got out of that KY game with no major injuries. Coach wasn't happy about having to play that game at this point in season when they are playing UT Martin this week for the conference and auto berth. He wasn't coach when the game was brokered. Then again, no one ever expected TnTech to ever be undefeated in FCS play in any season. Late season payday game. That coach did pretty well I think overall at ODU or wherever it was he came from. In his two seasons at Tech, he has shared the conference title, and currently undfeated in FCS play and looking for an outright conference title. Big jump from normal TnTech seasons.

This is a very impressive team that Tennessee Tech has. Other than getting their doors blown off by Kentucky, which was understandable and expected, they've not only won most of their games, but DOMINATED their opponents. This is a team that can go far in the FCS Playoffs, if not win the National Championship. I also think that they will get past UT Martin and get the OVC Championship and Automatic Berth. What a way for them to end their run in the OVC by winning the Conference and bringing that and possibly a National Championship to Cookeville.

Wow. Can't say that I have almost been to all 50 States. Other than here in Tennessee, of course, I have only been to Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
