He's a "see the ball" missile, but against SEC talent you have to have really good speed to play that way.

I got an idea - let’s play Ben fuq’n Bolton over Jadon Perlotte

Perlotte is obviously a vastly superior athlete but I don’t think he was ready early in the season. Linebacker isn’t a very easy position to learn in a few weeks. I heard Kevin Simon explain why it took some time for him to get on the field. Perlotte looks like the best linebacker prospect we’ve had in many, many years. His athleticism jumps off the screen. Can you imagine when he fills out?

Perlotte is obviously a vastly superior athlete but I don’t think he was ready early in the season. Linebacker isn’t a very easy position to learn in a few weeks. I heard Kevin Simon explain why it took some time for him to get on the field. Perlotte looks like the best linebacker prospect we’ve had in many, many years. His athleticism jumps off the screen. Can you imagine when he fills out?

Athletically yes, he routinely busts assignments though. Once he learns where he supposed to be and when, his closing speed is going to be a cheat code.

Yeah and I am going to vent a pet peeve of mine. Saying a coach likes to play bend but don’t break is a misnomer. Coaches are typically forced to play that way because they don’t have the talent to be more aggressive. Banks would be dramatically more aggressive if he had his two injured corners as he proved that last year. Not claiming he’s a great d-coordinator but he would be much better if he had some more talent. He also deserves blame for that lack of talent.

It is fascinating how such a simple common sense observation is far too hard for most of our "fans" to understand.

I get what you’re saying: if a team had enough confidence in its line to pressure, it wouldn’t blitz. If it had enough confidence in its secondary it would blitz without fear. Teams don’t have that level of confidence, so they compromise.

UGA is unapologetically bend but don’t break in approach. Smart doesn’t want to gamble on pressure and risk an explosive play. He does not believe that teams will be able to consistently have 10-play drives against his defense, so he wants to avoid big plays and just wait until a defender makes a highlight play or the offense makes a mistake.

Side note: that’s what yall gave us such fits this year. Multiple deep pass plays had us in the spin cycle.

Most college teams rely on explosive plays to score points. If you deny them the big plays, they will eventually give you the ball back as long as you tackle and rally to the ball.

I’m not saying it’s the only way to play defense or the best way (and UGA certainly mixes things up), but I’ve come around to appreciate the beauty of bend don’t break.

Most unstable football programs of all time?? Just how far back does your fanhood go, because I remember Tennessee history quite differently. This program didn't de-stabilize until Kiffin bailed in the middle of the night.

Please tell us how you would describe the stability of the Tennessee football program from 2008-2021. We won 44% of our games during that stretch (67-86). We went to a bowl game FIVE times in 13 years. It was almost 15 years of NCAA investigations, getting blown out by 30 points to anyone with a pulse, and a revolving door of coaches and administrators. Yes. During that period, we were one of the most unstable football programs of all time. If you can name any other historically top 15 team that went through a worse stretch, I'd be happy to discuss it. Even Auburn has a much better record over the last 13 years than we did during that time.

Based on what?

His best return games... ETSU, UTEP, Kent State
His high mark for tackles... UAB, Florida, UTEP


He had a handful of nice showings against the cupcakes and one game against Florida that went to OT where quite a few players racked up loads of stats.

I've seen him and in high school he was a man among boys against goo competition. There is no doubt he is an elite athlete. Just like Nico was an elite talent but there are other things in play.

UGA often has superior players at all 3 levels that allows him to play it straight up. Just so many variables that the average fan doesn’t understand. They just see the offense make plays so the defensive coordinator sucks. Kirby wouldn’t be elite if he had Mississippi State’s players and Mississippi State’s defensive coordinator would be a whole lot better with Kirby’s. Coaches obviously make a big impact but it’s often over stated in both directions. Good points.

His potential is insane. I love linebackers that can run and show up with an attitude.

Sure looks like the staff hitched their wagon to the wrong horse on this one....kinda like Nico. Another mis-eval. Wish we'd never signed Carter and had applied that money to far more urgent needs. Yeah, I know...hindsight, but both those players had red flags families. Carter even had some HS issues. Signs were there.

Just remember to keep this same energy when Heupel doesn't sign your favorite portal safety/ cornerback who has been with 2 different teams and has an arrest record

Btw, Carter signed a new contract in January (for hundreds of thousands of dollars). All of this stuff started happening AFTER the second portal window ended. Not going to lie, most of yall were already crying that Boo was going to leave when the discussions were happening.

Yeah, I just simply don't agree with this. I don't care what he did in HS playing in East TN 6A isn't the same as playing in 6A in Texas, Georgia, Florida, California, etc. we as a state are pretty lacking in HS talent.

Also Boo played for 3 different HS...so maybe the writing was always on the wall that he'd eventually get pissy and wanna bail soon as someone else showed him some attention.
