Heup should hire Sellers for 2026

Milton had 20 passing touchdowns in 12 games. He didn’t play in the bowl game.

Come correct or don’t come at all.
I'll start by saying I have no interest in even appearing to bag on Joe as he was and still is all VOL. That said, through 12 games, Joe's total yards was 52 more than Joey's 10 games. Joe also threw two fewer TD passes in 2 additional games. Joe did have half as many INTs through 2 additional games and also had 4 more rushing TDs. Joe's average per attempt was 1.3 yards fewer than Joey's, as well. It is also worth noting that Joe was in his third year in Heupel's system when the 2023 season started. Joey was closer to his third month in the system.

No one is bagging on Joey at all.

2023 and 2025 are awfully similar seasons with marginally similar QB output. That’s not slighting Milton or Aguilar.

Not everything is a hate fest

I wasn't suggesting that. I didn't want anyone think I was. He certainly had his limitations but he represented the University and his team very very well. I feel like Joey Aguilar does, as well.

I was thinking he would snap like a twig if he took a hard hit yesterday. He needs to eat a sandwich or 500.
I sense another portal QB will land in Knoxvegas to lead or provide some stability for 2026.
Not a knock on GMac but he might need to fill out and Faison probably isn’t ready.

Look at the team around him and the coaching staff. Sellers was being talked about as a first round draft pick. He would be a stud here.
Every black QB with a strong arm and decent wheels has been hyped since Cam Newton. Same deal with Arch Manning being hyped because of his last name. I’m convinced that none of the talking heads have a clue what it actually takes to succeed at QB.

Sellers went to a school with a joke of a head coach. I think he would be a great one year guy to bring in with GMAC and Faizon. If he develops into what people thought he would this year we will be competing for a Natty. If he doesnt GMAC or Faizon is starting by game 4.
We’re not competing for anything until the defense gets fixed.

Is there anything that even indicates Sellers is considering transferring? I ask because last summer he turned down a two-year, $8 million offer from another school to stay at SC. His father stated his goal was to get a degree and play football. Not to chase money. That puts us three pages into a topic that will probably never happen. If you want to dream, dream big.

This isn't a slight to Aguilar, but Joey A is having a slightly better year than Milton's 2023. Unless Aguilar goes on a heater these last two games, they are going to end up around the same total TD's (27 for Milton), Aguilar will have slightly more total yards per game to Milton's, and Milton will have less turnovers than Aguilar (Milton's 5 INTs to Aguilar's 10 INTs currently)

2023 and 2025 are parallels of each other it seems.
Hard objection.

JoAg is accurate and throws a great deep ball. Understands the offense. Doesn't run first. Leads the #1 offense in the SEC and #1 or #2 in FBS. Only about 5 of the 10 Ints are on him.

If he would stay another year then I would get the NIL deep pockets to go after Tavon Green from Arky. Perfect fit for our system and a Josh Dobbs like runner.
Green is a stud and he’d definitely be on the short list if there were one.
Sellers played scared in the 2nd half yesterday. He could have kept the ball many times on the read option and had wide open space. Plus on that back to back 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 that changed the entire game, he should have called his own number. He can’t get it done IMHO.

Aguilar has less weapons and an abysmal defense to support.

For comparison, here are our team defense rankings the past four years.

Currently: #114

2024: #7

2023: #22

2022: #37

Didn’t get the hype last year, certainly don’t see why there would be any after this year. Hard pass.

SC has been a hot mess this year. Their OL is bad, very bad. Sellers hasn't looked good but he has zero support. He could be a monster in Heupel's offense.

Yes, "hire" is the correct term here. I think Sellers will be a hot commodity, Heupel should still pull out all the stops to bring him to Knoxville for 2026.
I am hopeful anyone Huepel hires has won championships. Sam Pittman would be an enormous hire if he is interested.

When it comes to QB output, you can object, but you can't hard object. My simple point is that Joey A is going to have a slightly better year than Joe M if current averages hold up.

Milton - 259 yards per game
Aguilar - 306 yards per game

Milton - 2.25 touchdowns per game
Aguilar - 2.50 touchdowns per game

Milton - 5 Interceptions
Aguilar - 10 Interceptions

This is not some controversial stirring opinion either.

Tennessee is likely to be 8-4 in 2025 like we were in 2023 with slightly better QB output.

Heup should…

Stay committed, to the development of Faison.

I agree. I don’t understand why these highly rated QB’s can’t get the “system” down in 2 years, and the practice experience of running the offense enough to get on the field!? Plus, we don’t seem to get the backups hardly any playing time in cupcake games to develop college level game skills. We often see freshmen QB’s do quite well at other schools. I’d like to see CJH go with GMAC, Faizon, and a “backup” from portal and use the early easy games as getting their feet wet. A mindset of getting the best player on the field, even if he has to take a few lumps at first.
