Game Thread: Lady Vols v Belmont, Home, Thurs. Nov 13th, 7PM, SEC Network

Wow, this is the first I've been able to watch this year, and I'm more than a little concerned. Other than Coop, I don't see a single positive. The basketball IQ of this bunch looks horrendous. Hopefully I'm just seeing them at their worst. Coach Kim has her work cut out for her.
definitely one of the worst offensive quarters we’ve had this year. the newcomers are struggling to adapt to kim’s system. it hasn’t clicked yet, hence ugly play.

The hole left by Spear and Spencer is large and looming. Their shooting would have added another 15-20 points to the first half score tonight, easy. Certainly would have covered up some of the bad shots and bad decisions, as well.
I agree they miss Spencer. But less Spear when they play good teams because she was such a liability outside of shooting. But they aren’t getting much from the 5. Spearman has been disappointing

kim has to fix the offense. jesus…
Kim has completely changed the way she coached from a year ago. We were one - two passes and a shot going up last year and crashing the offensive glass. That is why we were one of the best in offensive rebounding teams in the country and also a leader in shots taken. It looks like the Hoosier 5 pass rule has been implemented. There is nothing special or different about this offense than any other medicore teams offense in the SEC. Maybe she feels she can't win with the system she ran at the D-2 level and is attempting to run a more mainstream offense? 4th game in a row and exactly the same. This is Tess, Jewel and Sara's pace.

2 of 19 from the three so why we keep throwing them up so early. 12 of 21 two point. 25 to 21 rebounding. Free throws they have 10 and we have 3.

Would rather see us get to the rim. We were in the first quarter and it was very successful. Just because you’re open doesn’t mean you need to shoot that three. Put the ball down and hit the 4’ floater or draw and kick to the post.

spearmen has completely stopped going back to the basket. that was some of her game last year. she just hands around the 3 point line, throws up a three, or drives and turns it over. you have to get going in the paint.

Trolls never seem to amaze me in these threads. South Carolina had a 1st half against Clemson that was no better than the 1st half Tennessee just had against Belmont (who is significantly better than Clemson) and nobody said a word about that performance in the Non Vol Thread.
If you think the only positive on this team is Cooper your basketball IQ is low.

I don't know if we can get a foul called, but it looks like the best strategy tonight.

In the preseason last year she repeatedly said her teams are historically UGLY in November and December until it all comes together. Then they roll in conference play. Really really hoping that’s what we get this year.

Last season we came out the gate firing but lost steam when it counted.

They are currently 70th on Massey. I would call that mediocre, whether they are well coached or not. And yes I do know basketball.

This is definitely not one of their better teams. They usually have more shooters than they do this season. Working in their favor to not shoot the three and get in the paint.

Belmont played Oklahoma close and had the game tied in the 4th qtr.
No way anyone can sit here and type that this might not become one of their better teams when we’re early in the season and they’re competing against SEC teams.

Our team last year had a LOT of veteran players.

Really think a lot of us have forgotten how many growing pains come with a lot of freshman. Especially early in the season. Usually after that Christmas break when they get to just focus on basketball and then see their family they hit their stride.

Adjusting to the academic part is a lot that we overlook. Especially for a first semester freshman.
