It's likely to be a game of big emotions for Belmont Bruin Avery Strickland, who was always one of my faves as a Lady Vol. I always appreciated her high energy, super work ethic on the court and in the classroom and, from all I could gather, was a well liked teammate. 🧡

(If you're sitting there thinking about typing your reasons why you are glad she transferred, please reconsider. Avery is a hometown girl from Knoxville, Tenn., whose dream it was to become a Lady Vol. She got to live that dream. Please don't trash her for fun today.)

And she's off to a good start there! In the first two games, she's averaging 9 points, 2 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 0 turnovers.

I hope we had a good week of practice - better than whatever happened after NC State and between ETSU/UTM.

I'll guess Tennessee 82, Belmont 60.

You never can know when a gritty Belmont team is going to get hot from deep. Looking at their stats they haven't shot well at all from anywhere in their first couple of games, but I don't trust them not to have their big breakout game against US. Y'all know that's possible given how many times that type of thing happens to Tennessee. 😩

I'm really glad it's a home game. I know I shouldn't be, but I'm a little ... twitchy.

The Lady Vols must approach this upcoming game with unwavering commitment and focus, as any hint of complacency could lead to an early setback. In their last outing, they struggled to perform at the level we know they are capable of for three quarters before finally finding their rhythm. It is crucial that they do not start this game sluggishly or appear disengaged; such an approach would undermine their potential. Tennessee possesses an abundance of talent, and if they harness it fully, they should be able to assert their dominance early and consistently throughout the game. The opportunity to showcase their strengths is within reach, and it is essential that they seize it with determination and intensity.

Jones in particular is due. She hasn’t played very well thus far. She usually has a really good game against us.
