Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

It's going to be an interesting scenario when we play Florida in a couple weeks.

They won't be motivated to save Napier's job this time.

After they lose this week they won't be bowl eligible, so they won't be motivated to win out and go bowling

Beating us wouldn't really ruin our season and I think they still look down on us in the rivalry, so I don't think beating us would make their season

And the only way they could surprise us at QB at this point would be to start Harrison Bailey and he hasn't been better than 3rd string at every school he's been at since he left here.

I think we comfortable ish win in the swamp.

I assume in that percentage they are factoring in a pretty good chance we lose one more game? If we win out I bet the odds are around 10%. Just guessing.
No that's definitely winning out. We might not be in the top-25 if we finish 8-4. Borderline imo.

To finish top 12, we need to rack UF and Vandy by 40+ and many other things to fall our way. Unfortunately, our resume just doesn't help us at all.

To compare, the 2 closest 9-3 SEC teams last year to almost get in were Alabama (3 ranked wins) and Ole Miss (1 ranked win vs #3 UGA by 18 points). Our best bet is to absolutely boatrace a ~top 12-15 Vandy in the final week for 1 ranked win...and yes we all know we should have had UGA and not even discussing this 😑😑😑😑

"The Miracle at South Bend"

One of the greatest comebacks in Tennessee football history has simply become known as "The Miracle at South Bend". On Nov. 9, 1991 Coach Johnny Majors led his 13th-ranked Volunteers into Notre Dame Stadium to take on Coach Lou Holtz and the No. 6 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. It was the sequel to the classic Vols-Irish contest in 1990, the year before, when Tennessee's bid to upset the No. 1-ranked Irish fell just short 34-29 at Neyland Stadium. The Irish roster was loaded with future NFL players including Jerome Bettis, Rick Mirer, Rod Smith, Rodney Culver, Tony Brooks and Aaron Taylor.

Tennessee fell behind 21-0 in the first quarter and trailed the Irish 31-7 in the closing minutes of the first half. Notre Dame lined up to kick a field goal that would have made the score 34-7 at halftime, but linebacker and kick-blocking specialist Daryl Hardy blocked the attempt and fleet-footed defensive back Floyd Miley scooped up the football and raced 85 yards for a touchdown to give the Vols a little life, 31-14 at the half. The momentum from that game-changing play carried over to the second half as Tennessee's offense got on track scoring 21 points, while the defensive held the Irish to just a field goal.

The Vols completed the comeback in the fourth quarter when running back Aaron Hayden caught a screen pass from quarterback Andy Kelly and coasted 26 yards for a score. John Becksvoort's PAT made it 35-34 Tennessee with 4:03 left in the game. There was one final miracle needed, however, as Notre Dame frantically and methodically marched down the field in the game's final moments. With four seconds left from the UT 9-yard line, defensive back Jeremy Lincoln partially deflected the 27-yard field goal attempt to preserve the Vols miraculous, hard-fought, dramatic victory.

Kelly was 24 of 34 for 259 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Kelly spread the ball around to eight different receivers in the game. Hayden was Tennessee's leading rusher with 82 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown along with two receptions for 30 yards and a touchdown. The linebacking trio of Ernest Fields (13 total tackles), Shon Walker (12 total tackles) and Hardy (10 total tackles) led the defense.

We will see... Maybe instead of griping about things, how about win..winning solves all other issues....
I'm not griping about their SOS, but people saying "why can't we also get 11 wins every year" need to realize that 15 of 16 sec teams have top 20 SOS, so it's not going to be a league where there are only a few good teams at the top and every one else is easy like the Big 10.

All Conferences have tiers... So you believe a Mississippi State or Arkansas could be middle of pack in Big Ten? I would have to see it, to believe it...

One of the greatest games that I've ever seen.

No, but the middle teams in the SEC like Tennessee and OU would obliterate the middle teams in the big 10 like Nebraska and Minnesota. Indiana gets to rest their starters almost every week because the middle of the big 10 is really bad. They can crush Minnesota easily. Nobody in the SEC can crush OU or Tennessee easily.

This has probably been posted here. It's from the other day. I wonder how much Disney paid Tuberville for this tweet? It just feels so gross. I don't know why they think this helps.

You think if Disney wanted to make a big statement using a politician they’d use ….. this jackass?

Politicans spending time and hovering over...sports entertainment?

Uniquely dumbed down, Alabama.

Priorities are so backwards in parts of the US.

Everything you said makes sense. I still won't believe UT wins until I see it.

I wonder if Squirrel and Boo get together and see which college team they can fleece more NIL money out of next year?
Squirrel is a VFL, dude has a little baby. Jave you heard him or read direct quotes ? Its a dude that realizes he is 5'9" 165, and this is it. He wants to provide. Let's not compare a man providing to a grown adolescent being spoiled.

Peay, you're a good dude. Didnt mean to be an ass, just hit a nerve, in this economy.

Don't bring me into this.

It’s tough to watch. Rational me says “no way they can get officials to fix the game “. But my eyes see Bama get call after call, year after year. Hard to believe they could actually get officials to do it but my gosh you have to wonder. Same thing for Georgia.
The SEC is a league that generates unspeakable amounts of money, and they know which teams matter in the playoff scenario. Noone is really getting hurt here because the conference has revenue sharing and "all" conference teams get rewarded. Fans may get upset because their team gets jobbed more often than not.

In my opinion, that is what's playing out in stadiums every Saturday. Money is the route of all evil but what would this conference be without it. Just some food for thought.
