Coach Kim not really very happy with how team played in some areas like rebounding, Three point shooting, and fouling.

I think she should also be concerned about the press as well. I don't know if it is just me, but it does not look as effective this year as it did a year ago. Something is just different and not in a good way. We have upgraded the athletes, but over these first two games it hasn't been as effective as last years team. It seems like it is at 3/4 pace and playing it more safe, which is not having that chaotic effect on teams like last year. The trapping so far has been less than impressive. It is though they are half committed to it. Is anyone else noticing this or is it just me? Maybe Kim is easing her way into it, but this press needs a lot of work imho.

I heard her say something that kinda bothers me. When discussing boxing out and rebounding, she mentioned putting a “bubble” on the rim. Is that common? Seems that would throw off their perception of how the ball comes off the rim.

When I played and did those rebounding drills, we didn't have a bubble, but we had someone purposely missing shots, so the ball was generally shot flatter and harder which also threw off the perception rather than that of someone actually shooting to make the shot. Having the rim capped with a "bubble" probably gives a more realistic way the ball is going to come off the rim than how we did it many years ago with someone purposely missing I would think.

Watching UCLA they look like a legitimate final four team and certainly in the top five teams in the country. That shooter they brought in just makes the two Betts girls a lot harder to guard. Were going to need some really great play to have any chance to win that game.
We’re not winning that game unfortunately, and likely to lose by double digits. I’ve seen enough, this team isn’t good, and we’re Sweet 16 at best this year. 6th in the SEC.

Barnes got his freshmen going in game two Coach Kim trying to do the same.

caldwell is on point with her critiques of the team
but as the coach she deserves some criticism as well
because her system is at fault for some of the issues

for instance, not calling timeouts when teams go on a run
or not calling timeouts to sub exhausted players when there's no deadball
subbing in the wrong lineups and subbing out the right ones

not hunting or exploiting obvious mismatches
not attacking players that are in foul trouble
nor attacking the rim enough to draw fouls to get into the bonus

i love coach but if you're gonna throw the team under the bus
you better make sure that you're putting them in position to succeed first

Agree subbing is totally wrong JMO really stall momentum in some situations. No player should not be able to go three minutes without being subbed and that is at full effort. All your other points are correct as well.

She is in the evaluation phase of the early season. I think she has to determine what each player can do under different circumstances. She knows what she is doing and she has to do it to know who will be able to play when the going gets tough in SEC and tournament play.

Given the choice of following your little groups line of attack vs Coach and the rest of our staff I will go with those on the bench and not the dens of fans. Meeting end goals not early eye candy seems to be their priority and mixing and matching this many players, especially in a position-less 94 ft attack is critical.

Rotations can be more matchup driven during crunch time not just predetermined platoons being thrown out there. Lots of learning curves as they familiarize themselves with each other on the floor in different groups of five in multiple roles.

Maybe you're looking at a stack of sheet metal at one end of a GM assembly plant and saying, "No way this is a car."

I think your accusations would be fine if posed as honest questions. But given that she's been incredibly successful each season and at every stop running this system, including winning a national championship... might be hasty to claim after only 2 games that she suddenly doesn't know what she's doing.

Exactly.

I like that she is getting a lot of PT for all her players as she can. It will pay dividends.

Putting her players in difficult situations is part of her development program. Not calling timeouts is another way of putting her players in a tough situation to get them to step up under their on-court leadership. I really don't understand those who have never coached at her level thinking they know anything about coaching her team. Obviously posters who say they are not attacking the rim are not watching the game. I'm glad we are not driving right into a triple team. Shows they are adapting which is a good thing.

So you think the team is going to play every game over the course of the season exactly like they played the first two games of the season? What team in the history of the sport has done that? Who hasn’t gotten better over the course of a season? Who hasn’t gotten better over the course of a couple of weeks?

Holy over reaction.

I was just reviewing stats year to date while having a cup of coffee. Coop is having a POY type season early. Not only does she lead the team in scoring, but also rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Her numbers across the board are strong from a national level, and her shooting percentages are quite high in each category. If she ever gets up to 30+ min/game her numbers would be near the top in most categories.

All the people acting like the sky is on fire are the same ones who were super pissed when Kellie and Jon were fired. They’ll never be happy with Kim, her coaching or the players she likes to recruit.

I suggest they tune over to MIZZOU so they can watch them lose more than half their games by 20+ this season.

Holly's, Kellie's,,

I’m taking the word of the goat Candace Parker over the LVs biggest critics.
Everything is elite on Rocky Top🍊.
Today, I am catching multiple Top 25 teams in action.
My end of the season Top 5 will be announced today!

Of the ranked teams playing today I find the SoCal vs NCSU game most intriguing. I’m surprised Md. is struggling early vs Georgetown. Duke looking better but against the competition it is not telling us much. LSU will win by 70 again and we still won’t really know enough about them early as usual, but they look nasty good imo. They are very deep in talented offensive players. It will be a hard fight for any team against them this season.

Yeah I’m curious about the SoCal NSCU game. Will tell us a bit more about where we rate.
