Tennessee Lady Vol News

Tennessee still struggling to rejoin the SEC's elite

Before Tennessee upended eventual national champion UConn in a nonconference game in early February, last season's edition of the Lady Vols struggled. They could beat the teams below them in the SEC standings but labored to get over the hump against the better part of the schedule. Tuesday's 80-77 loss to NC State felt a lot like that. A seven-point third-quarter lead disappeared -- and so did the chance at a season-defining win.

With the additions of top recruit Mya Pauldo (10 points) and one of the portal's best players, Janiah Barker (15 points), plus what appears to be an even better version of Talaysia Cooper (23 points), this might be a more talented Tennessee team than a year ago. But Tennessee will still struggle to beat the best the SEC teams if the shots don't drop (34.2% in the second half against NC State) and the Lady Vols can't set up their press or dominate the offensive glass (NC State had one more offensive rebound). -- Creme

Cue Creme derangement syndrome. Starting a little early this year.

Actually, what he’s saying is not not true but it’s definitely the most negative spin you could put on it. He says himself it’s a new blend yet wants to give no grace for the blend to blend. It’s the first game dude.

yeah my thoughts as well. he’s not completely wrong, but it’s way too early for an article like that. on par for him.

The Lady Vols are on everyone's radar. It's clear that we're right on the cusp. So so close!

Come on, Lady Vols! Focus! You got the players, coaches and support of Vol nation. Continue climbing that mountain and grab what's yours!

GBO!

It’s just funny to me that we make one more shot, or take away the technical, or other very small changes and we win that game and he’s saying the complete opposite. Despite playing pretty horrible. There’s some truth to what he’s saying but like you said it’s one game and I still have confidence in our players and staff to correct. We also have two more games this weekend in the first week of play. And his inaccuracy mixing up Mia and Mya lol

I was just about to say that. Hard to take this seriously if he can't even get the players right.

Dude is an idiot and hasn’t been relevant for a decade. He clearly doesn’t watch the games and just spouts off random nonsense like any other casual fan.

He’s an ophthalmic sales rep in the Vegas area and I’ve met him personally. Total slimeball. Didn’t talk basketball with him at all because I couldn’t wait to get away from him. Total sleeze.

It is understandable point of view if one thought first game performances were extremely predictable, but we know that is not the case. If it was, LSU vs. Florida State would be in the football championship this year instead of looking for new coaches.

"They" expected us to win decisively. If we would have won, then it would have been "Ok, cute. Let's see how you do on your west coast trip." and then SEC conference play. That's what our ladies will face until the day the Lady Vols raise another NCAA Championship banner.

We definitely have a bright future. Hopefully, this loss and the lessons learned propels us to a great 25/26 season, post season and so on.

I feel strongly that most people (including Creme) are not taking into consideration the fact that Ruby's dismissal two days before the opening game would almost certainly have an effect on the outcome of that game. A huge event like that would take tolls on everyone, both emotional AND physical. There is no way that her worrying for a solid week about her best friend's future didn't affect Lazaria Spearman, at the very least, but likely several other players and staff as well.

We're lucky we only lost by three, IMO. Hopefully everyone will be able to settle down and be better able to focus by the time we play UCLA. This is a tough time for the players, but I'm confident they'll bounce back. 🥹

He can say that because he know that were playing LSU. SC, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss on the road and only have Texas at home. Definitely going to be hard to take those teams down on the road, but I think we win two of them and I think we beat Texas at home. The favorable schedule belongs to LSU and SC and all the other top SEC teams have SEC schedules better than ours. Just hoping we can go something like 5 and 3 road or at least 4 and 4 and win all the home games.

Watching UCLA they look like a legitimate final four team and certainly in the top five teams in the country. That shooter they brought in just makes the two Betts girls a lot harder to guard. Were going to need some really great play to have any chance to win that game.

We can probably play ETSU without fouling. Getting teams to the foul line has been a major problem in the KIm Caldwell two seasons. If we can find a way to guard teams without giving them 20 something free throws we certainly can win against anybody. Remains to be seen is that happens.

UCLA is a team I won't be one bit surprised if they kick us up one side and down the other.

It'll take one of those rare magical performances by us, and an "off" night for the Bruins, for the Lady Vols to pull the upset on the road. A win is not impossible, but is highly improbable assuming, of course, they don't have any significant injury losses before we play.

Idk I think UCLA PG play is shaky right now and that’s tough against us. If you don’t have a really solid Pg with really tight handles we suck to play against.

They have some extremely talented players but are slower and less athletic than we are. If we can force some early turnovers for easy scores I like our chances, even on the road.

Y'all, I just discovered that Marta Suarez is STILL playing college ball, this year at TCU. That just seems crazy to me, but true. 😲 Had 19 points in their opener:

Getting the full tour of the US out of this basketball deal - not a bad strategy

It's possible but I don't think we have less than a 25% chance of a W against anyone in the country right now, and that could improve as we do.

According to Massey, UConn 22%, USCe 18%. LSU and UCLA at 37%. Texas 41% and Oklahoma 45%. At Ole Miss, 50%. All the rest are 57%, at Stanford, or above.
