Open date this weekend and watching games. Happened to think about all of the wild happenings within the conference this year combined with Bama’s dominance under Saban. With this, recalling all of the complaints about the SEC office in that state and how that team, and others, seem to get breaks at pivotal times.

Saying that, what conspiracy theory about the SEC do you actually believe in?

Is there a general college football conspiracy theory you believe in?

I must say, Freeze got a very raw deal this year at the Barn. Do I believe the SEC office or others set a mandate to oust him? Not really. Just poor officiating.

I do believe we (Tennessee) conspired or pushed to have Florida’s SEC championship pulled away in ‘85 leading to our Sugarvols.

I do believe Fulmer conspired to get Bama in trouble but, I’m not certain he did that in exchange for the SEC/NCAA to turn a blind eye to us.

None. Don’t buy conspiracies. Whistle blowers would have a ball exposing them and far too many people would have to be involved.

I’ve often thought that. However, ever since the SMU documentary 15 years ago, it seems kids have been adept at keeping their mouths shut about payments. Except for the Auburn guy in the early 90’s.

LOL for example remember the 2nd half of Bama in 2023? I do.

We do need to play better, but they feel like protected teams by the conference.

I have successfully consumed enough Jamison's in the last two years to guarantee that I have no personal memory of that game. Call it selective amnesia ha ha.

I do understand your point however

Florida was guilty of the biggest recruiting scandal at that time. The decision to make Florida ineligible was made before the season started & nobody thought Tennessee had a chance in hell to win it in 1985. Woodruff & Dickey, both old gators, probably did enjoy leading the parade but it was the ONLY decision to make at the time.

Fulmer was only one of several SEC coaches that reported Alabama over their Memphis recruiting deals. SOS & Houston Nutt were both on record reporting it but Fulmer gets all the “credit” from Bammers.

I believe the SEC deliberately tries to get as many teams as possible into national championship contention. The two or three teams that are perceived to be the best by week 4 get protection by “bad officiating” throughout the season. This has been the case since the playoff postseason.

There is no excuse for a league as big and rich and popular as the SEC not to have top notch officiating, unless it’s deliberate. It’s also not a coincidence that ESPN doesn’t show replays of some calls and ignores poor officiating during the game. For example, when OU ran the fumble back, two players were clearly offsides at the snap, the guy who made the play was nearly half a yard into the neutral zone. All ensuing replays of the play were from behind the QB and they never showed the guy offsides again.

Maybe could have been UT if the kid made the FG.

My favorite conspiracy theory is the one I just made up. The SEC did not want Peyton to win the HeisTman so they never pushed back on ESPN when they pushed Woodson for the trophy.

Is it still a conspiracy if it is the truth?

Why would the SEC not want its most highly regarded/publicized player since Bo Jackson to win the Heisman?

Especially when an SEC QB won the award the year before. 😔

Cutthroat businesses like college athletics don't lend themselves to conspiracies.

Conspiracy requires "socialism" in that everyone keeps quiet "for the good of the mission" instead of ratting people out for their own glory.

Unless there were Mafia type consequences, a big college athletics conspiracy can't work. The egos and self interest of schools are too big to keep things quiet.

That was because Tennessee was beating that a**.

That next to last paragraph is absolute BS. They were already on probation before the season began. What evidence do you have of it? Your beliefs?

It started when the Great General didn’t like that draft dodging beerman so he beat that beerman like a stepchild and sent him into deep depression. The beerman swore revenge against the general. So the beerman moved to Texas and thats where he was introduced to Jack Daniels and the handshake. When the beerman moved back to the state where the people had a hard time talking thats when the beerman became the bearman. The bearman then started teaching a select few the handshake and wasn’t long before half the State knew it. When the bearman died the handskake almost died with him untill the yankee appeared. The yankee achieved what no one else could and thats the 5th knuckle. Where things got out of hand is when one of the Children learned the handshake and moved to Georgia. People started hearing rumors about the handshake so something had to be done. So the yankee then sent a bald headed man to Tennessee to confuse them about the handshake. Turns out the bald headed man was the one confused. Now the handshake is legal and everyone is confused.

Don’t know about SEC conspiracies, just that ESPN hates UT. So does Gary Daniels, Herbstreit and Jesus.

I want to believe this, I really do. But go back and watch the second half of the Bama game in 2023 and the whole game in 2019. It was almost silly how one-sided the officiating was and how the officials swallowed flags for Bama while penalizing us for anything and everything that was even close.

For reference, up until the last 2-minutes this year (when the game was already over), bama had gone almost 8 full quarters between ‘23 and ‘25 playing us in Tuscaloosa without a single live ball penalty called on the them. Not a single hold, PI, or personal foul. Honestly, what are the chances they play that clean against us? Add in the officials ties to Bama, living in Birmingham, SEC office being there…and not to mention the lasting hate from Bama fans for the 90’s and Fulmer era.

I don’t know if it is a conference conspiracy, but the officials are not above board here and we will be at a disadvantage in Tuscaloosa before the game even starts.

officials make a ton of mistakes.. no doubt about that.. but a conspiracy is a planned activity... I just don't buy that a conference or group of officials plan to make calls for one team over another in any particular game.

Can a single official officiate with a bias? I could see that as just a function of being a human being and intentionally or unintenionally making / not making calls.

Most officiating is just humans making errors in my opinion... In my younger days, I officiated some basketball games and found it extremely difficult to be close to perfect..
