Herbstreit hot take on Tennessee - Lock down Heupel

Lock him down and his amazing clock management? Yeah right……..

Give Josh a lifetime contract.

West Virginia, not the brightest state or university, got tired of their football coach who they perceived was not winning enough.

Well they were a little hasty and a few redneck impatient Dancin’ Outlaw oriented fans screwed the pooch.

Dont do this Vol Nation. You have lucked into a generationally brilliant coach - do not I repeat DO NOT make life difficult for Josh and his staff as another program will gladly turn their program over to these men and you will once again wander in the post-Fulmer wilderness that you have just escaped.

These coaches are already making 10 times more than they deserve. Now again the price goes up for a new coach and all the current coaches get an increase. This is unsustainable. Get a young oncoming coach and load up his NIL wallet, see what happens.

Those wanting Heuple fired just do not have a realistic outlook on FB overall and where this program is today. The below is from an article from Saturdaydowmsouth about the craziness from the fire Heuple crowd.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tennessee was 0-37 vs. AP Top 10 teams in the 14 seasons prior to Heupel’s arrival on Rocky Top
Tennessee went from 2007-20 without beating a single team ranked inside the top 10 of the AP Poll, and yet there are people convinced that Heupel’s ceiling is too low. Never mind the fact that since Heupel took over, he’s tied for No. 6 among active coaches with 11 wins vs. AP Top 25 teams

Fire Martinez, keep Banks at least another season, lock down the rest.
Safety play has been ass. You got like three corners on the roster likely to go in the first two rounds of the draft. Why in the absolute F would you keep banks and fire Martinez?

I, myself, have been quiet on this, but Josh worked a miracle on this program. We were Nebraska and many of us thought that the program was too far gone and would lose support to continue to even try to be competitive in this league. Heupel has earned the right for us to take a step back and look from a distance to see what has transpired under his leadership. We went from the worst season in our history to vying for a NC under harsh penalties in 2 years because of this guy. 9-3 or 8-4 as a yearly expected result will not cut it at UT, but he’s not that kind of coach. He’s fighting for better.

Does he need to make some changes? Maybe. It’s a more complex atmosphere in the game than I know. I’m just a fan. All I know is that he has taken us from the dumpster juice to the CFP with a handicapped QB and he has earned the utmost of kudos.
Wasn’t a miracle. Closer to smoke and mirrors than a miracle. He did a good job, but he hit a very hard ceiling very quickly. His floor and his ceiling are higher than the previous jokers, but it isn’t that of a program that will ever be elite. He has too many flaws that haven’t gotten an ounce better in 5 years.

I am not always a Herbstreit fan, but damn it, he hit it out the park with his take on Heupel. Only disagreement, though, I have is that we shouldn't lock down his entire staff. Banks and Martinez still need to go.

I like Herbstreit for the most part. He's definitely the best one of the crew on Gameday. However, I can't help but think this has a little bit of a "Tennessee should be thrilled with 8-9 wins year in and year out" feel to it. Not sure if that's what he means, but if it is, I disagree. Completely agree with Heupel being here for as long as he wants though. Just not sure if they should reward him with top 5 money just yet in a year where the team will almost assuredly miss the playoff and lost to 2 out of the 3 rivals. Not the best timing...

Lost respect for him the year OSU did not make playoff and he got up ran off pouting like a little boy.
