I don’t think Faizon has even played this year, right? Would be shocked if he beats GMac out.Whoever can come in a throw the deep ball accurately I believe will win the job between Gmac and FB. It is the ultimate key to the offense. And unfortunately the coaches have shown that it is actually then end all be all in the pass game. The middle of the field was open all nigh long Saturday and we refused to take it. This is another adjustment I would like to see in the offense this offseason. When teams show you 2 high safeties you have to live underneath and let your playmakers work in space.
Lol for someone who acts like he knows ball. This gives us our answer. You don’t.
I do expect to make the playoffs every year. I also understand the dynamics of what is going on. We have extremely talented 1st and 2nd year players filling this roster. We are set for more next year and beyond than this year. Joey came in late and he has been really good but also made some game costing bad plays at bad times, (bad throw on the pick six and the floating of the 2 balls in the OU game that were picked). Is it wrong to think the expectation should be to make the playoffs every year? I'm not saying you fire a coach for missing it one year, like we'll miss it this year. But if Heupel were to miss the playoffs 3-4 straight years in a row, would that not be a sign it was time to move on? I know every year isn't realistic, but making it once every three years, that should be realistic, IMO. I mean, schools like Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Ohio State... Those schools' fanbases have the expectations of making it every year. So it's not like I'm putting us on an unreachable pedestal. Making it one out of three years seems like a fair expectation. We made it last year. We missed it this year. Should we miss it another couple of years, then yeah, I think Heupel should be on the hotseat. But that's not now. Now is hoping they come back next year, stronger and tougher and ready to kick ass. But the expectation every year, IMO, should be make the playoffs.
Reliable poster?I posted this in the basketball forum but I meant to post it here. I don't pay enough attention.
Florida just lost to Arizona in basketball and then someone just dropped this news on their 247 board:
“The two names that I'm hearing the most about over the last few days are Jeff Brohm and Eli Drinkwitz. Brohm is a name that the high school coaches around the state really like and they believe he's someone that would win at Florida.
Based off of some recent talks, I think it's fair to say that there's a good chance Kiffin stays at Ole Miss.“
I don't think you should worry about injury. If he gets injured you go to the portal and get a QB. With the offensive numbers Joey has put up so far QB's would be lined up at the door for the chance. Plus Matthews, Staley, Jackson, Smith, Davis, Bishop, Lewis and the guy I think shows out next year Morris tools abound. Will be interesting to see how staff handles next game with GMac...if he's your future ya gotta play him BUT this late in the season an ACL tear also derails those plans for next year.
Here's an interesting thought: we haven't had a legit elite QB at Tennessee under Heupel yet. We've had experienced guys with good enough talent that have done well (Hooker and Aguilar) and a couple of very physically talented guys (Milton and Nico) that had some shortcomings on the mental side of the game. What if GMac or Faizon turn out to be elite physically and mentally? It's crazy to think that this offense potentially has another level we haven't seen yet.
The changes to the offense this offseason and the young talent they're starting to stack on offense should have the offense consistently near the top of college football for years to come.
I'm sure some will disagree, but I think the program hitting a championship level comes down to overall on-field team discipline and the defense (scheme along with talent and coaching at safety).
I guess what I'm saying is that there's a lot to still be excited about. We've been nipping at the heels of that championship level and it's obviously frustrating that we haven't gotten over the hump, but we're at least in position to get there still. Heupel learned a lot last season and made changes to the offense that helped a lot (Nico was also obviously addition by subtraction). With the talent we have on the roster and in the next class, I'm sure Heupel is already thinking about the moves he needs to make so the roster he's building doesn't turn into a wasted opportunity.
This is what I am going to look at for sure. I think you will see a few guys give minimal effort. Glad we have a get right game first because I think we will see some position shifts.Biggest thing with our team going forward is we can’t lay down now that we are out of the playoff race. Hopefully we don’t see key guys quitting and heading toward the portal. I imagine anyone going pro would sit out our bowl game now. Hard to blame them but hopefully the young guys show out. We have to get them experience in this NMSU game.

Hooker has been a non factor in the league, so yea there’s definitely another level of QB play this program can hit.Finishing 5th in the Heisman voting isn't elite? Come on.... Hendon's last season here was elite, over 3500 total yards with 32 total TDs and only 2 INTs while throwing for 69.6% and playing in just 11 games.
This is exactly right. Hooker was an afterthought, Agular was an castoff from mid team and look what Heup has done with them. Everywhere he has been, his offenses are great. And now some of the same people who were saying at the beginning of the season that we would be lucky to be .500 are pissed and saying fire him because we didn't go undefeated. Some of these people are priceless and shameless. Here's an interesting thought: we haven't had a legit elite QB at Tennessee under Heupel yet. Point is Hooker was not elite before he met Heup. Imagine what he could do if he had a qb with the tools and the brains for three years. It would be like Frankenstein with a normal brain, a scary monster.Finishing 5th in the Heisman voting isn't elite? Come on....
