Another Government Shutdown Thread

The shutdown will end within the next week because the elections will be over. Democrats will no longer think they're gaining an advantage (they aren't anyway) by their virtue signaling. They'll end up voting for the clean CR.
Wed or Thurs. Gives Trump another gold star achievement in his mind

imagine having to fight for funds for a program that they claimed would reduce premiums. not to mention they were temporary additional funding.
Problem also is Republicans have never provided an alternative. They "have ideas". Lol. OK pass them. He touts reducing fraud waste and abuse, intangibles with nothing concrete. They are all in bed with Big Pharma. Making Healthcare affordable isn't in their interests.

So what..Dems own this program and shut the gov down for it.

Rub n tugs

Give em the subsidies. Makes Republicans look like humans with basic emotions and gives the dems their Obama legacy a little while longer. They'll drop the Ugandan AIDS Summer Camp for Trans Albinos nonsense.

See how easy that was? Just solved a shutdown in 4 minutes that elected officials couldnt do in 35 days.

so the Rs should "compromise" and agree to spend a trillion plus dollars; while the Ds should "compromise" and only give up a few billion?

and the D's should only compromise on the non-American parts of the extra money they want? that should be a non-starter to begin with.

Can't put a price on on rub n tugs man.

Or can you?

Just spitballing ideas. We don't get everything we want I life. It's about compromise. Compromise isn't always fair. Life isnt fair. There will always be the haves and have nots. Feelings will get hurt. F your feelings. Take the high road. Do the most good. End swiss tarrifs.

Lol, I can just picture the kind and sensible articles on being fiscally conservative regarding the GOP and Trump from the honest media.

I agree life isn't fair. that's why the Dems seeking some Unicorn ACA program is trash and should be abandoned. Eff their feelings.

The easy non-partisan compromise would be to just accept half the amount. both sidings meeting in the middle. but thats not what its about. neither side has ever suggested it.

depending on what you want to call "the most good" having the government shut down might just be it.

We are a nation of type two diabetics arguing over cake or ice cream. its about dang time someone came along and smacked the spoon/fork out of our mouths. the most good would be actually fixing the problem, not kicking the can down the road relying on half measure insulin shots.

It's that what Soetoro meant when he said "elections have consequences"? What exactly did he compromise on?

False:

Yes, Republicans have proposed multiple alternatives to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), often referred to as Obamacare, with the most notable legislative efforts occurring in 2017.

Key Republican proposals have included:
  • The American Health Care Act (AHCA): This was the main proposal put forward by House Republicans in 2017. It aimed to repeal the ACA's individual and employer mandates (by reducing penalties to $0), replace income-based subsidies with age-based tax credits, expand the use of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), and restructure Medicaid funding to a per-member amount or block grants to states. The House passed an version of the AHCA, but it was not passed by the Senate.
  • A Better Way for Health Care: Released as a white paper by then-House Speaker Paul Ryan in 2016, this proposal also suggested a system of tax credits and encouraged the use of HSAs. It maintained some popular ACA provisions like the ban on denying coverage for pre-existing conditions and allowing young adults to stay on their parents' plans until age 26, but proposed different ways to manage high-risk individuals, such as state-run high-risk pools.
    • Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA) and Graham-Cassidy Amendment: These were Senate proposals in 2017 that largely mirrored the AHCA's goals, focusing on repealing the ACA's mandates, cutting Medicaid funding, and giving states more flexibility (e.g., through block grants) in running their healthcare systems. These bills were ultimately unsuccessful in the Senate.
    • More Recent and Ongoing Proposals: In recent years, various Republican Study Committee (RSC) budgets and other conservative plans have continued to propose significant changes, such as ending enhanced ACA premium tax credits, imposing work requirements for Medicaid recipients, expanding access to short-term, less comprehensive health insurance plans, and further restructuring Medicaid into block grants.
While these plans have been formally proposed as legislation or detailed frameworks, none have successfully passed both chambers of Congress and been signed into law as a comprehensive replacement for the ACA.

VA cancelled my physical therapy appointment I've been waiting on for 6 months (due to moving) due to the shutdown. Thanks Trump/Republic##ts. I'm sure my OIF IED injury will fully resolve itself through the power of prayer.
There are plenty of people who think it will..

But but OBAMA DID IT! Get some new material bro. Actually no, its been 9 years. Obama was black and your president. Time to move on. He isn't trying to get reelected for a third term so you'll be ok.

The most good is doing the least amount of harm to Americans. The shutdown isn't the most good as it negatively impacts millions upon millions of Americans. It strokes the feelings and fears of a lot of MAGA. Government employees bad. Food stamps bad! Brown people badder! Government LEO enforcement wing good though, they would never harm us!

is it really harm if it leads to a better future? One where shutdowns like this aren't possible, or if they do happen they aren't impactful.

surgery is a highly traumatic event. it is purposefully causing harm in order to fix something. bandaids and butterfly kisses aren't cutting it, and have gotten to actually be problematic.

you, and most Americans, would rather have short term comfort but long term issues, rather than deal with short term pain to avoid long term issues.

American figuratively and literally needs to get off its butt. no matter how much people complain.
