2023 census determined the US had 320 million citizens. 42 million is 13%. Seems quite high a percentage of citizens to be on food stamps unless they’re also handing them out to non-citizens?

I thought MTG was a Tara’s nut job but I’ve also heard her a couple times lately talking like an independent intelligent person - what gives?

How do you know 13% is high? What is your frame of reference for that?

From what I read, the number of Americans that met the poverty threshold in 2023 was 36 million or 11%. So, that means it jumped $6 million in two years, or about 2%, assuming all those meeting the poverty threshold are claiming benefits. Someone asked earlier is the 42 million the number of actual claims or the actual number of people in each household that are receiving benefits? Numbers seem consistent, so no idea if there are people receiving benefits that shouldn’t be.

Why would you assume those are the same numbers (food stamp recipients and people below poverty?

I just looked it up. You can have gross income 130% above the poverty line and still get food stamps.

Anyway...while I agree entirely with both memes posted above it is concerning that the latter misspelled "dependent". People tend to disregard whatever point is being made if there are elementary spelling or grammatical errors. I am personally bad about punctuation unless writing on paper etc. I also have a tendency for run-on sentences that span a paragraph. Hopefully anyone that actually reads my often lengthy posts grades on a curve. 😆 I have never been on VN from anything with a keyboard. Posts are "stream of consciousness" quickly hammered out with my 2 thumbs by phone and certainly no standard for grammar or punctuation.

They probably do, I don't know, but 13% doesn't sound high to me at all. I wouldn't just make up some story based on that. Lots of single-mom-ism out there.

VA cancelled my physical therapy appointment I've been waiting on for 6 months (due to moving) due to the shutdown. Thanks Trump/Republic##ts. I'm sure my OIF IED injury will fully resolve itself through the power of prayer.

The average American salary is like $60k a year. Most people are not only stupid, but poor (goes hand in hand often). So that number shouldn't be surprising at all. SNAP doesn't just go to lazy colored people like MAGA thinks. It helps seniors and people with mental (MAGA) and physical disabilities who may not otherwise be able to support themselves. It probably covers WIC too but we don't need that. Why help women with infants and children? Once that abortion is averted they should 100% be on their own.

Injuries sustained during service, especially during combat during a war, get treated by the VA for the lifetime of the veteran. I can afford PT on my own, and I often pay for it myself. We probably should cut all the veterans off from VA benefits though since its welfare. That would save a lot of moolah. Nix their pensions too. Lets trim the fat! MAGA!

Not saying you don't deserve PT at the VA. You've certainly paid the price for it. Just saying your PT cost if you went private is likely much less than your watch purchase.
Priorities.
