Auburn Fires Hugh Freeze

Durkin is a far worse person than Freeze could ever hope to be, and somehow he's the interim head coach.

I mean honestly-at least with me, it wasn't a matter of what Freeze did as it was the way he did it.

As long as everyone involved was of legal age and acting on their own free will-their lives man.

Now when you have one hand on the Bible and the other hand on the escort listings, things take on a bit of a different look.

Some guy being a bit randy isn't nearly as much of an issue as a hypocrite

And look carefully at Auburn who fired Gus for "not being the guy" while winning and they've wandered in the wilderness ever since and still are there.

Think carefully before you decide to fire a coach because they don't bring you the championship you feel you deserve. It can and it does get worse.
Years ago, Syracuse fired a guy named Paul Pascaloni who took them to bowl games just about every year. Some of the big donors wanted BIGGER bowl games. The school has done little since—coach after coach after coach.

Ryan Day is doing it.
He’s the only one. Hopefully Heupel asks himself “how?” and sees Chip Kelly calling plays. I don’t think it’s possible for an HC to manage a game at a high level while also calling plays. He needs to hire someone with experience calling plays so he can give it up. Maybe Hugh Freeze?

Maybe Lebby when he is let go by Miss State?

Next season, we will face at least three SEC teams with new head coaches.
The bad part of that is, if these teams hire a good sitting HC, he will bring along his best players from his former school. With the portal, It's easier than ever to win right away with a new HC, though sustained success is arguably tougher than ever.

Only 2 in his last 5 years.

9 overall in 14 years though.
A major mistake by the school. Syracuse is not a draw for high school kids. Jim Brown played a thousand years ago. No high school recruit knows who he is, nor do their parents. I don’t think an indoor stadium is a draw. The campus is ten miles South of the North Pole. Upstate New York has very little football talent. I have lost track of how many coaches they have gone through and Fran Brown will jump ship once the ACC is raided by the Big Ten and SEC and Syracuse is left in the ACC/American Conference merger. Or before.

Another indicator, it's more about the Jimmy's and Joe's. He was great when "recruiting" great players to Ole Piss.
Freeze's Auburn team is more talented, on paper, than his Ole Miss teams.

In 4 full seasons at Ole Miss he had two top 10 classes. #8, #15, #16, #5

In 3 full seasons at Auburn he also had 2 top ten classes. #18, #10, #6

Freezes Auburn team still has more talent than Heupel has.

Freeze's problem at Auburn is singular. He didn't get a QB from the portal before the 2024 season and he went with Jackson Arnold for this season. It really shouldn't be shocking to anyone that Arnold isn't good. It isn't like he was a backup at a prior school and therefore an unknown commodity, or killed it at a prior school and is inexplicably struggling at Auburn. He stunk at OU last year and looks exactly the same at Auburn. At some point you have to move on from a guy's star rating and just concede that the evals were off and he isn't good.

Their defense is actually pretty good. It's absolutely unbelievable that the most points they've given up in any game this year is 24, but they're 4-5. If Freeze was able to have gotten or developed just an average/replacement level SEC QB instead of the ones he's had, they might be undefeated. Seriously.
