Can we discuss the stupidity of using Nathan Robinson as an extra O Lineman on a pivotal 4th Down?

I’ve said it before but it’s all window dressing to make the defense think it’s a run up the gut. The bad part is that it was the same play that we tried to Kits against Bama on the goal line except it was out of the gun.

Venables being the defensive guy that he is has studied film and knew the play. Thats why the linebacker chipped Van coming off the line. It was enough to disrupt his rhythm, but not enough to draw a penalty. It was a bad play call and smart defense.

The fourth and one play came out of a time out where Heupel couldn't get the play in, necessitating the time out and this is what the clown show came up with, a freshman with 2 prior receptions this season. In tight spots you look for players not plays (per Saban) but Heupel likes these gadget and gizmo formations over the ability to collect a yard on a traditional SEC/RPO call.

You should. When the games on the line you put the ball with your playmakers. Maybe not the wrong call but definitely the wrong personnel.

Seasons on the line and your putting it in the hands of a freshmen whose caught two passes? Give me a break.

That’s the part many either don’t understand or simply refuse to acknowledge. It’s not always “who has the better team, who is better coached, or who calls the best plays”.

There’s a massive amount of statistical variability at play in any game. You can have the right call and your guy drop a pass on a play he makes 9/10 times. You can have Georgia beat and your kicker misses a kick he makes 9/10 times.

Bringing the big DT in there made me think that we were going to run the ball.

Therefore, it was deception.

Joey threw it a second early. In general, he was off the whole game and that play just was the final nail in the coffin.

This is where the emphasis on EXECUTION is everything in coaching. All those films and stories of great coaches being absolute a$$es about getting correct execution don't lie. Do it until it's beyond motor memory and it's instinct.

In school I had a professor who said "I won't be happy until I can call you in the middle of the night and ask you....... and you tell me anyway when you're half asleep. I want to be able to see you passed out in the street, wake you up, and you can still tell me....."

Execution. Drilled in you until it's the only response you have in the situation. Correct execution. It's the only weapon you have against mistakes.

What does bringing a defensive tackle in there accomplish that you couldn’t have gotten done with an extra O lineman? An O lineman might be able to block the guy who blew the play up.

What do you know that Heupel doesn't know? I tell you. Nothing. Nothing wrong with the call or personnel.

Obviously. It was executed perfectly…. You’re just arguing for the sake of arguing at this point. Any moron knows when the games on the line you trust your play makers. I know a lot more than him apparently. Even knew that clock was going to keep running when he didn’t. He got to cute. These are basic fundamentals.

Ask Pete Carroll if he could do it all over again during the SB if he’d of threw that pic or just handed lynch the ball at the 1 yard line.

Imagine trying to argue that the games on the line and you trust your nobody freshmen TE. We don’t agree a lot Bernard but I can usually at least see where you’re coming from. There is 0 logic here.

It’s not like Jordan passing to Steve Kerr!
That would be excellent strategy.
Kerr played all the time and is used to taking shots in pressure situations.

What UT ran was the same play but Jordan passing to the 12 man off the bench.
A rookie who hasn’t played and hasn’t been taking shots in pressure situations.


HUGE difference.

I get what both of you are saying, but I’m telling everyone to get the ball to Jordan and get out of the way. It worked with Jimmy Chitwood too.

Problem is, I don’t know who our Jordan or Chitwood is tbh.
