So who COULD we get if not Heupel?

How many years will you be able to fill Neyland every game if we become an annual 7-5 or 8-4 team? At least Richt won a few SEC championships while at UGA his ten years down there before they canned him.
You must be a young 'un. Historically, UT is an 8-ish win program. They filled the stadium then and they'll continue to do so unless things get a lot worse. Given the SEC of today, I wouldn't dismiss the idea that 8 wins is a solid season. This is a new world we live in.

Two obvious changes you need to make:

Get rid of Tim Banks
Get rid of Joey H

Going jumbo package on the one year goal line and THROWING it was just retarded

I think the only thing worse than that was putting a freshman tight-end in on 4th down and throwing the ball to him and expecting him to catch it when i have never heard of that kid before in my life. Both Fireble offenses. With this offensive team and Joey's good arm, I'm having Brazzell streak down the field each time

It wasn't hard for Fulmer to recruit 5* guys to TN. It's definitely not hard to recruit high level players to TN, but you've gotta have good recruiters and Coach's that can develop. We have neither.
I don’t recall CPF getting a lot of five star players. He got a few here and there, but we never were loaded with five star players. Some we did get were busts. He took linebackers and developed into defensive ends , put weight on DB’s and running backs and made them linebackers. A lot of these posters don’t remember third down and Chavis, the old Mustang package where every team always converted on third down.

You really expected a championship in year 5 with what he took over? Need a reality check my dude

The expectations drastically changed after his second season. Anyone using the state of the program as the measuring stick 3 years after the 2022 season is just making excuses.

Heupel deserves all the riches that came from
The dramatic turnaround but he also deserve the criticism that comes with the territory.

Nick Saban is not coming to Tennessee. He is retired and done with the NIL mess. If you want an elite coach like Nick Saban you might as well try to get the coach from Indiana Curt Cignetti. You would have a better chance of getting him than Nick Saban.

With the playoffs 8 game winning seasons is not going to be the standard goal. You might have them time to time. But if you aren’t making the playoff every 2 out of 4 years that isn’t going to be acceptable nor it should. There is no way if you’re competing in the SEC with our resources that 7-8 win seasons is your standard. Hell, it hasn’t even been Heupel’s standard here so far. You might be content with 7-8 wins every year and be happy but most aren’t and I guarantee guarantee folks who by tickets and contribute money aren’t buying a 7-8 win standard either. Most all teams have a bad year or even bad stretches but they don’t accept it as there standard. GBO

Ok this is not the year or the time to fire him. But it is the year the AD tells him he needs an OC to control plays and clock management and he needs either a new DC or a better secondary coach. Keep the scheme. Keep the style but shore up the stupid false starts, horrible calling in dire situations and fix the damn clock management. You do that and learn how to stop a third and long and we are fine.

If not 2027 you get a new coach.

But not now.

Oh yes I’m sure you are a coach hiring messiah. I bet you were on the moon when we hired a coach from the “saban tree” because it was a “guarantee”. You don’t get any guarantees period. The AD hires someone who has won some games and puts on a few good talking points in interviews. Then it works or it doesn’t.
I’d say it’s slightly more complicated than that. Especially for an AD with a pretty good hiring record in his career.

Of of course it is. But you still get no guarantees. Just curious. Which hires are you speaking of? Because the coaches winning hardware on UT campus aren’t DW hires.

Fans who do not understand the landscape of college football or where Tennessee sits would never understand your question.

Truth is, Heupel has been coaching at a level above the talent we have had since he has been here. Tennessee was hit with recruiting violations and is just now hitting theor stride in recruiting. As we have seen with the defense this year, while there is talent, we are thin. We are stacking the talent.

But at Tennessee, even with NIL, we are a tier behind the upper echelon of college football. Tennessee doesn't have the recruiting hotbed that other states have access to.
With NIL location does not matter where a player lives, it's all about money and player evaluation

I know who he’s hired here and who he hasn’t. I didn’t say they were winning titles yet, I said he has a pretty good history of hiring well. You know, including before he was here and the beginning of time for you apparently began. But maybe you’re right. Fire White AND Heupel. Solid strategy.
