Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

We could fire Heupel and go off into another 10+ year ditch... with the way SEC scheduling is going, I could totally see that happening

Or we could rally around him, he could hire a new defensive coordinator, and we could just see what happens if we are one of the few programs in football with some coaching stability
Offensive coordinator too. Maybe a renowned qb specialist.

And it will eventually make baseball a product only folks in like 5 cities watch. Granted very large cities.
MLB attendance up for the 3rd year in a row...you know College Sports are the same... Some schools have more money to spend and will dominate year in and year out... Let's start complaining about that,...

I'm not saying he will be on the hot seat THIS year. I'm saying that Heup might look at the next 2 seasons and decide he can't get us to a level where he's got the buy-in he had in 2022 and decides to start over somewhere else with a fresh slate before the hot seat talk starts in earnest. Because if a coach is unsure and the program declines under them, not only do they risk getting fired, but they also torch their bridge to other resource-rich P4 jobs.
I don’t think good head coaches are that much of quitters or low commitment. And I do think heupel is a good head coach.

If he’s unwilling to fire underperforming staff, I can’t imagine he’s the type to leave an entire program and everyone currently employed out to dry.

AP’s comments were essentially that we need to play the young guys we want a part of this team next year or else they may leave. Alluded to them being guys that haven’t play a lot so far.

I honestly thought of GMac with those comments

I thought he was referring to the Jadon linebackers (both spell it differently) Teelander plays hard but he is limited in speed and athletic ability at this level.

Not sure what you do at STAR or safety because I don’t think there are young stud underclassmen behind them. Reality is JMac and Boo couldn’t stop a slant to save their lives.

I used to let losses bother me but one day I realized that the only way Tennessee losing can affect my personal life is if I let it. I no longer do. I take things in stride. If I let following sports make me miserable, then I'd be dumb to keep doing it.
Well said---there is life outside UT sport's but some, in here, live and die with losses. So sad

He would likely bring most of his staff with him, though.

Again, I'm not saying he's 100% going to do this. And in a normal coaching carousel year, it would be unlikely. But there are already a ton of big P4 jobs open with likely more to come. If he thinks his stock won't get any higher, he will listen, because he/his agent will get some interest from jobs that otherwise might not look his way. There simply aren't enough qualified coaches out there to insulate him/Tennessee from that potential.

“Drunk on misery” is a great line. Perfectly describes my mindset right now.

My rational side is having a difficult time reconciling with the reality that last night was a BAD home loss, considering the stakes.

A Jimmy Football divided against itself cannot stand…
My meter oscillates between SAD or MAD

We are barely beat MS St and Arky…we don’t get that soft schedule next year. We lacked competitiveness on the LOS as the game went on last night.

I do agree that 9 wins going forward will be the new 10. Will look more like NFL.
WITH the youngest team in SEC. QB not even on team until June. 10-11 defenders gone from last year, 2 hurt future NFL defenders, plus more to the story…

Not saying their is not lots of work to do by the staff but some folks on here only take the chapters of the story they like and ignore the facts on the rest of the chapters in the story.

Youngsters do stupid inconsistent things And this team has had a lot going against them this year and since CJH took over.

Yes, you have to know the weaknesses. No you are wrong that the coach has to k ow and execute. His issue is willingness to execute.

The receiver coach was not the problem last year, it was clearly Nico and super conservative play calling in SEC play. Joey can sling it, albeit sometimes to OU’s safety.

We do have clear weaknesses on O Line, Secondary, DC, Special teams, and maybe OC. Also I would suggest an upgrade at S&C is warranted.

You have to be willing to go out and upgrade. If not, you will fall behind. Notice I said upgrade.
Not sure why you think Heupel is not willing to upgrade if he is able? You have to identify the clear upgrade and then compete with many other schools to actually hire the upgrade. He also has to fit into your system. I think Heupel wants to win and is open to change. The narrative he isn’t willing is just another internet rumor.

Our fans wanted the bragging rights that our QB left us and we had all these injuries, and we still made it back to the playoff.

The whining that I see isn't mad that we lost, it's mad that we didn't get what we want. Just gotta let the tantrum run its course in that case

After a work stoppage, there will be a cap in baseball. The sport will be much stronger for it
Last three work stoppages were over a salary cap and it never came to be... Not saying the MLB doesn't need one but it will never happen. Although if it does teams will learn to manipulate it just as the NFL does...
