Josh is not the guy

If you haven’t seen that heupel can’t get it done against top competition. I don’t know what else to say to you..
He plays scared, like on the turnover, 3 straight running plays, which we had not done much at all in the running game, afraid of another turnover. Yes Joey had the worst game of the season, but it's not all on him. We should have known he would be heavily pressured and had a game plan to offset this. We did on the first drive and a few others with quick hitting passes and then got away from it. And continous running up the middle which was going nowwhere. I believe we have some very good rb, but you have to scheme something besides running up the middle so much when it's not getting you anywhere.

If we got him back, he wouldn’t leave again.

Listen, I’m happy with what Huep did, coming in and steadying the ship, but he’s now outlived his usefulness. When we hired him, there was a significant portion of the fan base that wouldn’t be able to get behind hiring Lane because they were still butt hurt. I think we’re past that (hopefully). Danny should just do it and not subject us to another season of mediocrity.

I just don’t see Huepel doing what needs to be done in the offseason, he’s Fulmer 2.0 (without the championship).
I'll agree about Kiffin. He'll leave. He's also overrated and a better marketer of Lane Kiffin than a coach and it works for him. No hate but he's jockeying to go to Bama eventually. Let him stay at Ole Miss until they come for him.

As for Heupel, you're likely right that he's not going to lead us to the promised land but with all the coaching turnover this year, it isn't the year to start bidding for a splash hire. Don't extend him again and let him go if someone comes for him.

If Tennessee fires Huepel, he are we going to get? You would be lucky to hire Brian Kelly with all these job openings. He'd probably use you as and go to Oklahoma state
i agree with you at this time he is as good as we can get. I don't know anyone who is available who i had rather have than Hype. I am just very disappointed in his play calling, and the defensive schemes used on defense. I think we had better players than Okl, and outgained them in yardage by a good margin. Just not the score. We need a good oc, and let the oc call the plays during the game, and let Hype be a head coach, and not the oc. Which I think he would do much better job on clock management if he was doing that instead of thinking about calling the plays

I think Golesh would actually push back against Heupel, and Halzle is just a "yes man".

I also think that the defense was made better by having to practice against Golesh's offense; iron sharpen iron and all.
From everwhere I have read when Golesh was here he was calling the plays. Ever since Golesh left Hype has been calling the plays. And you can see the drop off.

Say I'm overreacting all you want. He does not get our players ready to play in the critical games. He is not a horrible coach, but he will not win a Championship at UT. If you're okay with that fine, I'm personally not. Flame me all you want for this take, I've seen enough. Kirby is out here and his players win games that they play like trash in, ours play well and dominate and still lose, and lose because of stupid mistakes, dropped passes, bad playing calling on both D and O, and poor overall preparation and coaching.
Agree with your assessment. However, he is the best coach TN has had since they fired Fulmer. He probably needs encouragement/help to make staff changes and time to improve. We could very easily be 4-5 rather than 6-3, 2 of our wins could have gone either way (Miss St & Ark) and 1 loss could have gone either way (GA). A good QB & a good kicker and this team is probably 8-1 headed for the playoffs, in spite of poor fundamentals and undisciplined play. The offense hasn’t had the fireworks like it did when Golesh was OC

Anyway, with all the job openings I’d be very hesitant to even consider replacing CJH regardless if he’s the guy or not longer term. I don’t want another 15 years in purgatory. Let’s give him time to fix it. We probably finish the season with 1 more loss, if we’re lucky we win out and play in a better bowl game. With Faizon coming next year the QB room will be more talented than it has been in years but young & inexperienced.

OU's defense already stuffed Tennessee on 4th and short. It was a great call, poor execution by the freshman.

Yes, the posters in this thread are very dumb. We don't need to go back to the dark days of Dooley, Jones, and Pruitt. Heupel will get Tennessee there.
I don't want to get rid of Hype, but the receiver he chose to throw to was dumb. why not one of our 3 best receivers instead of the freshman? I understand the play call, just not the receiver chosen to go to.

Do we really want to also be known as the fan base that wants to fire their head coach after a few loses???

Joey's been here since April.
Our best two Corners are hurt.
All our players are made of paper mache.
Boo decides to play the worst football of his life this year.
Our kicker couldn't hit the ocean from the beach and I think I read some reports that Oklahomas kicker may have hit the Titanic with a field goal kick from middle of Oklahoma and that caused it to sink.
Our O line stops blocking the second someone gets around them. They don't even try.

I think the most frustrating thing is that our defense was sooo competent the first quarter. Way more efficient than in months ans we just couldn't come out ahead.

Josh's teams need to be ahead but multiple scores at all times to deal with this wishy washy ****.
It isn’t after a few losses. We have seen over and over again undisciplined and inconsistent play as well as bad play calling and poor clock management. We could have easily lost to Mississippi State and only beat Arkansas by 3. We caught lightning in a bottle in 2022. Weren’t good in 2023, but mostly blamed that on Joe Milton. We were lucky last year to have a good defense and play Alabama, Oklahoma and Florida during down years. Look at the Arkansas game last year. This is the culture that Josh Heupel has built. We play down to bad opponents and show promise against good opponents only to shoot ourselves in the foot and give the game away.

I mean he was wide ass open. They had it drawn up. Just didn’t execute. It happens.
I think NEO was referring to going to the freshman receiver who had only 2 cathes all year, as much as the play that was called, and I agree, why not one of your best receivers.

Inconsistancy is the big thing. When we play our best we can play with any team in the country. We just see flashes of greatness.

Fire him now! Let’s go back to Dooley, Lyle, or Cornbread Gump! Those were the days
