Josh is not the guy

I appreciate the wins and bringing us back to mediocrity from a mess. Yes, it’s mediocre. Tell me what great team we’ve bested this year? Heup loses the games he should lose, struggles against the teams he shouldn’t, and struggles nearly every game when it comes to coaching mgmt. clock, play calling, etc.

Last night when a 4th down decided our season he threw to a TE freshmen who had caught two balls this year. Count em 2. Just asinine. He then proceeded to screw up time mgmt…..again abd obviously didn’t know clock running rules of his own game. You pumpers just can’t face reality. He’s a mess.

Once again we’ve benefitted from a soft schedule in comparison and your crowd will be beating your chest about 8 wins in a few weeks when we in fact beat no one.
I’m not beating my chest about anything this season. I picked us to win 10 games and I’m pissed that we should be a 1 loss team at worst right now. I think from an in-game management standpoint this has been CJH’s worst as Tennessee’s HC. We’ve left a lot on the bone in big games and yes his clock management has been poor. Yes the buck stops with him, but unlike some on this board, I don’t think every single that happens is his fault. Maybe some of our decisions late in games is bc Aguilar does things like he did against Bama and last night throwing that awful ball that gave them another 3 points. We missed a fg and gave them a fg. That’s the difference in the game. I do think it’s been bad luck with the injuries in the secondary. If we’re healthy vs UGA, I’m confident we win that game by 2 scores .

The difference between myself (I guess sunshine pumpers) and your crew is that I’m capable of looking at a big picture view, being critical of the coach, seeing what’s been accomplished, knowing what is out there, having an adult conversation and then not throwing a ****ing tantrum every 2 seconds about the coach and then not providing anything of substance of what you want after you make a coaching move. I’m sure coaches will be lining up to get our job when we fire Heupel after what he’s done here. GMAFB

Ah yes, the trials and tribulations of being a Tennessee Volunteers fan. I’ve grown comfortably numb.

I do know one thing: Heupel needs to step back and reevaluate this coaching staff in its entirety after the season wraps up. I feel like we’re on the verge of regression here. This includes CJH evaluating himself as well; to be an effective leader, you’ve got to take a look in the mirror at yourself and where you’re falling short.

I’m not throwing a tantrum. I see the same big picture you do, just a little differently. It’s year 5. Heup has shown his colors/his positives/ his negatives. IMO this is the peak we get with this staff. If that’s a “tantrum” then so be it.

Constant penalties especially on the road, abysmal performances on the road, terrible clock management, won’t fire his buddies, conservative playcalling. Yeah, I’d say he’s definitely not the guy to get us to a championship but he’s a slightly above average coach
But he's a GREAT coach!! So they say.

Say I'm overreacting all you want. He does not get our players ready to play in the critical games. He is not a horrible coach, but he will not win a Championship at UT. If you're okay with that fine, I'm personally not. Flame me all you want for this take, I've seen enough. Kirby is out here and his players win games that they play like trash in, ours play well and dominate and still lose, and lose because of stupid mistakes, dropped passes, bad playing calling on both D and O, and poor overall preparation and coaching.

Auburn fired Gus Malzhan for 9-10 wins seasons after a national championship. Bet they regret that now.

I agree with the thought that we are on the verge of regression. I think much depends on Vandy and FL games.

If you want a good but not great team, Josh is your guy. If you want to compete for SEC and NCAA Titles, Josh aint your guy.
Your anger is justified and I get it.I feel the same way this morning. Then I think of reality and there are 5 or six good teams in search of a savior coach at this moment. The fact is OK beat us at the line of scrimmage mostly.Joey was under pressure all night. On top of that Mcteer made us look silly with 2 freshman OT's. .He was rolling out and finding short yardage and running up the middle against a DL who have been gashed most of the year.If we can't get guys in the front five who don't get pushed around we ain't going to get it done! On both sides of the ball.

After having slept on it a night and going to church this morning, I’m still biting nails, but is there anyone out there better than Heupel that Tennessee could realistically get? I do know that wins over Florida and Vanderbilt are a must for him.

One thing I don’t understand. Most people before last night had Tennessee as a fringe playoff team and some them out altogether based on strength of schedule and defensive woes. Yet I read in several places this morning that Venables and the Sooners got a “statement” win over the Vols, making them sound like Tennessee was a juggernaut. Which one is it?

This argument holds 0 water. JA has been a massive upgrade. Heupel actually lucked up with that situation happening. We likely have 2 less wins if we don’t lose that QB. Would you be angry if we still had Nico and were sitting on 4 wins?
We have zero evidence that Nico wouldn't have improved in his 2nd year. No i dont want him back. Tennessee won the trade but that doesn't mean it wasnt a lose-lose for everyone involved. That situation affects more than just the QB position.

Its deeper than not having Nico. Dealing with that whole situation in the spring is not ideal for a team already dealing with a ton of turnover.
Just false. There is no limit to team turnover now given the NIL era. It will happen every year. We ended up with a Qb that has performed MUCH better than Nico did last year. End of story.

Anyone who has watched football could look at Nico and see that was a bust. 0 football smarts. 0 football leadership.

Regardless of how I feel about who the better QB is, If you watched the 2 picks Aguilar threw and somehow thought that was good QB play and somehow Heupel's fault idk what to tell you. Coming from someone who blamed the pick 6 against Bama on Heupel/Halzle. This one is on Joey, the OL, and Van Dorselaer/Staley dropping catchable balls.

I completely agree. JA had an awful game. But so did Heup when it comes to coaching.

Real quick tell me how many SEC and NCAA championships we have won in the last 75 years?
And here is why:
2026 Rivals Top 300 recruits by state:
Texas- 39 Florida 34 Ga. 34 Calif. 23 Alabama 15 Ohio 15 Tenn 8 And it is like that every year!
Hopefully NIL will help change this.

Is this before or after he inevitably jumps to Alabama when they've gotten tired of several "not the Saban" coaches?

He's not staying at UT. EVERYTHING is a stepping stone for him to follow his Daddy to Alabama.
If we got him back, he wouldn’t leave again.

Listen, I’m happy with what Huep did, coming in and steadying the ship, but he’s now outlived his usefulness. When we hired him, there was a significant portion of the fan base that wouldn’t be able to get behind hiring Lane because they were still butt hurt. I think we’re past that (hopefully). Danny should just do it and not subject us to another season of mediocrity.

I just don’t see Huepel doing what needs to be done in the offseason, he’s Fulmer 2.0 (without the championship).

Like the 4th and one call, the play scheme itself was not bad, but who he was throwing to was terrible, a freshman, who I don't even know who has caught a pass, why not your best recceivers?

I agree, he’ll never get us to a championship level but we can’t go through another coaching change.
i'm not in favor of a coaching change at this time. Only if we have a proven winner ready to go with us. Until then we win 8 to 10 games a year, and never know which Tn team is going to show up.
