Josh is not the guy

They are going thru 5 steps of grief acceptance, give them space they may hurt a co-worker tomorrow. 🤣
1. Denial
2.Anger
3.bargaining
4.depression
5. acceptance
After reading all these angry posts I realize I was blessed my you tube tv was unavailable last night. The World Series was great. Except my team lost , but I’m not mad and didn’t blaspheme a single time. Lol

good post. It takes a good 20 years to rebuild from the Dooley-Butch days. Josh is still on year -15.
Shoot, if Heupel’s on year -15, then Dooley and Butch must’ve dug that hole straight to China. Man’s been patchin’ leaks, buildin’ depth, and still winnin’ ball games while half the fanbase’s yellin’ from the porch. Rome weren’t built in a day, and neither was Knoxville after that circus.

If he doesn’t make serious changes in the offseason, instill discipline and get some of his risk taking back, he starts losing the fan base. You see it in this very thread that he’s on the precipice. I’ve always wondered if the AD has someone that reads message boards to understand common fan sentiment and use that to provide feedback.

You’ve got to win the games AND the PR battles.

If you want a good but not great team, Josh is your guy. If you want to compete for SEC and NCAA Titles, Josh aint your guy.
Agreed, if you wanna win 9 games and win one big game but lose 2 or 3 in horrible fashion then he is your guy. I say start looking. He will get 2 more years at a minimum even if he loses a lot. To tight with Danny White.

You have to look at the whole ledger and do so unemotionally. What Heupel has done here in 5 years, I give him a ton of credit and honestly he deserve a couple more seasons to see if he can figure out how to raise what looks like his ceiling here.

That being said, TN should be done with these automatic contract extensions each year until he shows he can raise his ceiling, which likely means significant changes that he has been very reluctant to make.

Making these huge buyouts is going to cripple these programs where every million used in buyouts is a million you dont have to buy on field assets. Stop extending these coaches 5 years into the future. It is idiotic and financially self destructive.

Get rid of him now
For who? Who’s the magician you imagine whose players never have bad games, who never gets outcoached, out recruits everyone, and who’s players never suffer injuries. Just curious who you would go get. A few years ago Dabo was THE MAN, would you want him? Lane? Who would you want in place of Josh right now?

For those who weren't around at the time..these are the exact words used to get rid of Fulmer who was the 2nd winningest coach in UT history. At the time we were 2 years removed from a division championship and five years removed from another division championship and 10 years removed from a national championship. We had won 1 national champinship, 2 SEC Championships ,3 additional division championships and 3 runner ups in the previous 10 years.
It's now been almost 20 years since we won anything.
When Fulmer was removed we had a weak AD who apparently was intimidated by the wanabe coaches and never pleased fans and he fired Fulmer with no plan to move forward and we moved on the the gutter of NCAA football for two decades.
Thankfully we now have a strong AD who hopefully doesn't listen to internet whining.
Pre season, everyone predicted this to be a rebuilding year with little to no chance of reaching the play offs. And this was before we lost our starting QB and both of our star CB's for the season. Most "experts predicted 8-4 with a ceiling of 9-3.
So what has changed that makes Haupel so bad?

Letting go of Fulmer was 100% the right call at that time. The many bad decisions that followed for years to come doesnt make that a bad decision in hindsight.

You REALLY expect Faizon Brandon to walk into a locker room with a first year coach just getting his legs and new staff?

The kid can go ANYWHERE. He can step into Athens or Columbus Ohio and be welcomed into stable programs.

You think he's going to come to UT in the middle of the chaos of a head coaching change? Think again.

Then what? Roll with Merk, who may very well leave? Roll with G-Mac, who has been preparing for Heupel's offense, not......????

You guys have the maturity of 12yos being told to get off the PS5 and go to bed.

You're right, it took hundreds of years.

Until heupel is actually able to develop a freshman QB, I think we need to put a pause on anointing either MacIntyre or brandon as the savior of this program.

QB play isn’t even really the problem that is plaguing this program though…it’s the severe lack of preparation for games and the constant mistakes throughout every game. It’s year 5, the penalties aren’t cute anymore.

There's a reason why teams don't use Heupel's offense. Mistakes are critical.

There's a reason why Ohio State plays pretty dull to watch football and Georgia plays pretty dull football and Alabama played dull grinding football under Saban. Mistakes kill you.

The big play, up tempo, spread and shoot exciting offense is WONDERFUL as we saw in 2022 if the mistakes don't catch up to you....... but the mistakes usually catch up to you.

Say I'm overreacting all you want. He does not get our players ready to play in the critical games. He is not a horrible coach, but he will not win a Championship at UT. If you're okay with that fine, I'm personally not. Flame me all you want for this take, I've seen enough. Kirby is out here and his players win games that they play like trash in, ours play well and dominate and still lose, and lose because of stupid mistakes, dropped passes, bad playing calling on both D and O, and poor overall preparation and coaching.
I agree. He is not the long term solution. No more extensions. If he decides to go, then it's on him. Until he can demonstrate he IS the guy, he's not. Danny White needs to find a championship caliber coach. CJH is not it. He's a nice guy, a good coach, I don't see him ever producing a SEC championship much less a NC.

Y’all are great at firing people. But who’s better and actually would want the job?
No one and personally these teams who are scrambling right now looking for a coach taking a gamble when they had a proven head coach, personally I don’t want anything to do with that. I agree some changes need to be made but we also need to be a little bit more humble and be grateful for what we do have and remember it wasn’t too long ago that we were in the wilderness for like 15 years.

There are only a handful of true National Championship caliber coaches in the country, coaches who can have their teams consistently in Playoff. (Smart, Day, DeBoer, Cignetti, & Lanning come to mind.)
Josh Heupel isn’t there yet, but he’s not that far off. If the OU kicker hadn’t had the game of his life, and Joey thrown two terrible picks, we’d all be celebrating our playoff chances this morning.
Our defense was dramatically better last night. Missed tackles almost completely disappeared.
9-3 is still a possibility, which most of us would’ve been thrilled with before the season.
Josh gives us a chance to win every game, excellent recruiting classes, and strong moral leadership.
I’m disappointed with the loss, but Josh has brought us a long way in a short time, and I think we’re lucky to have him.
