We got a coach that will give us 7-9 wins a season. That
is what the fanbase wanted. When you get the 7 win season
there will be some stinkers in there.

It is, after all, just a game.

For those who weren't around at the time..these are the exact words used to get rid of Fulmer who was the 2nd winningest coach in UT history. At the time we were 2 years removed from a division championship and five years removed from another division championship and 10 years removed from a national championship. We had won 1 national champinship, 2 SEC Championships ,3 additional division championships and 3 runner ups in the previous 10 years.
It's now been almost 20 years since we won anything.
When Fulmer was removed we had a weak AD who apparently was intimidated by the wanabe coaches and never pleased fans and he fired Fulmer with no plan to move forward and we moved on the the gutter of NCAA football for two decades.
Thankfully we now have a strong AD who hopefully doesn't listen to internet whining.
Pre season, everyone predicted this to be a rebuilding year with little to no chance of reaching the play offs. And this was before we lost our starting QB and both of our star CB's for the season. Most "experts predicted 8-4 with a ceiling of 9-3.
So what has changed that makes Haupel so bad?

REALLY? With what we saw in Pregame at Neyland? With Peyton Manning (Money, Power, Influence) in attendance? Don't sell UT Sports short! We deserve the Best . Nothing less.

The issue wasn’t firing Fulmer, it was all the bad decisions afterwards.

Fulmer was done. We were getting pummeled by 50 points by our rivals.

Yes really. Everyone can pay $10 million+. Coaches are content to stay where they’re at with ridiculous contracts. Cignetti is now locked in to INDIANA. This isn’t 2005.

You can still get a great coach that isn’t a sitting power 4 coach. It’s just risky.

Y’all hollerin’ “Fire Heupel!” like we got Nick Saban pumpin’ gas down at the Weigel’s waitin’ on a call. Man’s rebuildin’ from the Dooley-Botch apocalypse and half the fanbase already packin’ his bags. I’ll admit, I was guilty of hollerin’ too before I stopped and looked at the bigger picture — this man’s been patchin’ holes in a ship that was halfway sunk. Settle down before we end up hirin’ cousin Randy who once coached peewee ball and drinks Busch Light at halftime.

good post. It takes a good 20 years to rebuild from the Dooley-Butch days. Josh is still on year -15.

Well stated, many don't remember the Fulmer days when we were a relevant program, always in the talk for a NC and here we are almost using the same reasons to dump Heupel . Be careful what you wish for.

Joey will win us some games and he will lose us some games, that was already predicted and why can’t we understand this.. I’m very appreciative of what he walked into but this is what it is, we really wanted to believe that he was the next coming of Joe Burrow.. myself included

In Danny's defense, he was kind of out of options when he hired CJH. All of his top targets turned him down. CJH was at least a known quantity to Danny and was willing to take the job.
