I understand the bad taste in your collective mouths about the loss, and as a long time VOL fan, I am too. However, the knee jerk reactions to the game would not be here if we had won and everyone here knows it. That being said, most of you are not remembering the last three football coaches we had, plus the previous athletic directors. Also included in this mix, is the payouts for these mistakes. One really very important item, that no one here is remembering is the number of lost scholarships over the years, we are able to offer. We have been hit with those most important penalties and have not been at full roster (sometimes between 10-12 scholarships lost over those years. We are just NOW able to get to a full offering of those. Has Heupel made mistakes, as well as his assistant coaches? Of course.. Have we had to offer 3 star athletes over these years? Yes. If you don't remember how Heupel got UT to a great start his first year with the players he had, you are kidding yourselves about this situation. If all of you so called experts think you can manage 17-25 year old athletes and their personalities, the assistant coaches, the transfer portal, NIL craziness, boosters, and most of all, the high expectations of the fan base, then please submit your applications to UT athletic dept.Say I'm overreacting all you want. He does not get our players ready to play in the critical games. He is not a horrible coach, but he will not win a Championship at UT. If you're okay with that fine, I'm personally not. Flame me all you want for this take, I've seen enough. Kirby is out here and his players win games that they play like trash in, ours play well and dominate and still lose, and lose because of stupid mistakes, dropped passes, bad playing calling on both D and O, and poor overall preparation and coaching.
The problem is not stuff that Heupel runs - his offensive repertoire is actually excellent (he is offensive guru that's not really a qustion). However Heupel comes accross as a great OC who can't manage in game and probably all other stuff that HC needs to do (watch his press conferences and it's pretty clear). Golesh actually comes accross as HC - watch his interviews as HC at USF and that's also clear. Also Golesh has by now proven he can win big games and make adjustments even with much less talent avaialbe. Watch how USF beat Florida in Gainsville is all you need to see proof of that. They’re not going to pay a $50 million buyout to Heupel to go hire a guy who runs the same stuff as Heupel but with less experience doing it. That would be stupid.
stop...Golesh is 20-14 and about to finish 5th in the AACThe problem is not stuff that Heupel runs - his offensive repertoire is actually excellent (he is offensive guru that's not really a qustion). Send the Moving Van already!! No confidence in Josh Heuple. Volnation needs to get fired up------Again! Yall do realize that Cignetti was at James Madison when White hired Josh and was begging for a Bigger job?? LOOK at Indiana NOW. That is an Indictment on Danny White. Hired his Buddy instead of the hottest coach in NCAA Football.I understand the bad taste in your collective mouths about the loss, and as a long time VOL fan, I am too. So, given that.........who are you going to hire? You wanna go compete with Penn St, Florida, LSU, VA Tech, UCLA, MS ST, ARK? and that is the pool you want to dive in?
Heupel is NOT going to be fired. UT would look silly in the sports world and would not even come close to getting as good a coach as we have right now
Does he need to make changes? Sure. Sometimes they are forced to. When we lost Golesh.
As the old saying goes "If you can't change people..........you have to change people"
You’re close. As you get older you’ll learn to be realistic with your expectations. Averaging 9 wins is damn good.It matters. You just don’t care. We know you’re a pumper Palmer. It’s okay. You’ll gladly get these losses crammed down your throat and ask for another.
We will win 8-9 with some trash bowl and in your eyes “Tn is back”. You’ll bask in the mediocrity and bash us all for wanting what UT deserves.
Nothing wrong with it. Everyone lives life a little differently buddy.
Pork chop heupel has got to go ! We have seen his best and it’s not going to improve from here! 5 years of ok Tennessee football but mostly moral victories that gave you hope that we had truly turned the proverbial corner only to realize that we were only guided by blind loyalty to program that keeps asking us to be patient while it wants more and more $$$ from its fan base!I would rather have Heupel, but that is not a very high bar. We beat ourselves more than anything.
That’s a lazy take. You can lose games without necessarily taking a step back and everyone knows what that looks like. This is not an argument for or against Josh, but there likely were signs that the program wasn’t trending the same, regardless of record. Here, we can definitively say the penalties/lack of discipline for 5 years now are things that ultimately don’t lead to championships. Having zero top down down initiated staff changes in 5 years despite there being consistent weakness and shortcomings in the same areas, aren’t how evolving/growing successful organizations operate. He inherited an undefeated team at UCF. They had nowhere to go but down.
You’re making a good point. Thanks. You don’t have to coach at any level to be aware of some basic coaching fundamentals….. unless you’re our coach that looks lost weekly.Really?? So how many games at any level have you been the head coach?
What will Heupels average be if we go 7-5? 8.8. I just don’t think that’s bad. Especially considering that we are competitive with the best teams in the conference. That's true. What will be your opinion if we finish 7-5 which seems pretty likely after what we watched last night?
