The Official #14 Tennessee vs. #18 Oklahoma Game Thread, 7:30 PM ET, ABC

Why in the world did Heupel decline the holding penalty!!! If he accepts it it takes them out of fg range plus our defense was playing good at that point. I haven’t heard a single person bring this up. Another poor in game decision. Just give them 3 points.
horrible game management

this is not anything new.... it's Heupel!

Our last TD drive was atrocious. You want to preserve the two minute warning so you don’t have to kick it onside. You move at a rapid pace, especially when Oklahoma was conceding 10-15 yards in soft coverage. To make matters worse, Heupel didn’t even know that the clock runs above 2 minutes on an out of bounds play.

To me, I deeply believe this game is on the players. They demonstrated in the last minute and a half is the only time they played with desire, but it was too late. I t appeared that they assumed that OK would be a pushover after they scored so quickly and easily. They played with no desire except for some Freshmen and redshirt Freshmen who got to play later in the game. I would give those young guys much more playing time for the rest of the season. I would even let GMac get some quality playing time and experience. I guess that is why I am not a coach, but I would play the guys who demonstrate the silliness to play hard when they get the chance.
The parents call the shots now. His won't even let him play. Gmac.

I hate to say it but you could just feel that tonight was the turning point for Heupel. It confirmed for most of us that he’s hit his ceiling. He’s too undisciplined, is not improving on fundamentals like clock management, puckers up with conservative play calling and gives the game away, and gets outschemed (especially in second half). This isn’t the year to move on with so many coaching vacancies, and nobody wants to go back to what we were before. But the tide is turning the wrong way, especially if he doesn’t make some personnel changes, which he’s never done by his own volition.
Yes, CJH has to make personnel adjustments. He has to make a tough decision....so far he's never made a tough decision. And that is the problem so far.

We lost for two reasons :
1. Our coach was afraid and was coaching from a defensive stance.
2. Our team was not mentally in the game. We seem to be missing details that show up big in crucial moments.

Coach will have to let this spirit of fear go and learn how to attack and be the aggressor or change his offense to 3yards and a cloud of dust.

Did he? Or did Joey just have some brain farts? I doubt the plays were designed to be thrown into double and triple coverage
Heupel made some WTF decisions tonight. Like the declining the penalty when he should've taken it and took the Sooners out of FG range and going for an onside kick when we should have kicked it deep as we still had all our timeouts left and enough time left that we could have gotten the ball back and had a chance to win the game. But the bad throws by Aguilar? He didn't have brain farts. He had diarrhea of the brain when it came to those picks.

some of those coaching decisions were questionable but arguments could be made both ways. hindsight is always 20/20. personally i liked living with 55 yard fg attempt instead of giving them an opportunity to convert another 3rd & long. maybe they convert or if they don’t maybe they go for it in 4th ang get it then score a TD. then we’d be saying he should have let them kick the 55. on the onside kick we only had 2 timeouts remaining and defensive stops were hard to come by. if we recover the onside and win everyone would be praising that decision

Cough cough, we played a really good football team tonight, cough, umm we just didn’t execute and that’s on us as coaches and we have to do better. Rinse and repeat standard Heupel post game press
You forgot “lots to clean up” and “showed great effort at times”

Also not sure how to describe the sway/waddles back and forth, but they are there.

He won’t!

He is Cutcliff. Interestingly, Heupel wasn’t even Danny Dollars first choice - Danny going to have fire Heupel.

He is late stage fulmer. 100 lbs overweight, overpaid, and too stubborn/lazy to do anything about anything.

And that will get him fired if he isn’t careful. Eventually.

Heupel won’t make any decision. That requires him to be proactive. He isn’t. He has become stubborn, fat, and lazy. Just like late stage fulmer.

Yep. In the real world, once you realize that the guy you hired can’t do a job, you move on to the next person. You don’t just keep paying him in hopes that he’ll get better. Simply being better than Pruitt should not be the only requirement for the Tennessee head coach.
By the time Tennessee decides to move on the program will be the in the same mess it was in when he showed up.

Why was it a terrible call? The catch would get a first down when you had to have one.

There was no one within 3 yards of the guy, you'd think he's made that catch before, and if he makes it it, "What a great call!! No one expected the FR TE to, y'know, actually catch a ball, that's why he was uncovered!! First down TN!! Josh Heupel is a freakin' genius"

except

no ball was caught, now Heupel's the biggest moron on the face of the planet

For the lack of a catch....
No its not because the call was so mentally inept. It’s precisely because the probability factor of the call. Look at all the movement all the things that must happen in order for the play to succeed. The QB drops back takes the ball 5 yards off the line when u need one yard. The guy has to catch it etc etc. VS line up snap push forward one yard and hold the ball. Thats why it was a bad call

In case you’re not watching, we’ve moved the ball at will and then proceeded to implode on our own. We are on pace for our usual 500 yds. OU defense isn’t “elite”.

"on our own?" No, their DL is crushing our OL forcing mistakes.
you just don't get it. Best defense we have seen. They manhandled our OL, grabbed 2 interceptions and forced
a fumble that our large DE couldn't couldn't stop and a hobbled DL outruns our entire team.

You weren't watching the same game obviously. Their defense held the highest offensive team in the country to less than 30
They are elite. Their safeties were all over the field.

Yeah. Providing a scoop and score and throwing up 2 prayer ints is “on your own”.

And I hate to hurt your feelings but our offense isn’t what you think. Only looks like it due to our soft schedule. We haven’t gotten it done against anyone that matters.
