Poor football team year in and year out? We were in the playoffs last year. Could’ve beat UGA if we had a kicker and I think the kicker and some ill timed turnovers cost us this game as well. My God it’s like yall dont even watch the games and just get a notification on your phone that say “we lost” and yall are ready to move on from a coach that most teams would kill for.How do you have this huge stadium, huge fanbase, big money and have this poor of a football team year in and year out?
In all seriousness, I don’t think he should be fired by any means but I’m just tired of never being elite. Alabama hired Scut Farkis, lost to Florida state and now miraculously puts it all together. We have not won the sec since Fulmer. That stings. This is year 5 and we should be in the hunt. All we do is lay eggs.Stupid crap like this is why most people avoid the FF...especially after a loss.
We have averaged 10 wins per year over the last 3 years and drunk/ignorant people say stuff like " we have a poor football team every year".
Before tonight CJH has only lost 2 games at home in almost 4 years...both to UGA. Beat Bama and flarda both times too.
Any of yall that think we can grab a better coach than CJH are out of your damn minds and need to talk to LSU, Flarda, and pretty much every other fanbase in the SEC thats being honest. Kirby is the only coach in the SEC that can logically claim to be better than CJH. Even Lame and DeBoer still havent made the playoffs.
Yeah Oklahoma had 3rd and 16 and Mateer ran for 20 yards, good ole Tim Banks!!!!Heup and Banks both coached fine tonight. We lost because we got physically beat in the trenches; because we made two many mistakes; and OU gave Joey some confusing looks that he wasn’t prepared for.
Our inability to get push from the OL for our run game to get going was the deciding factor.
They basically manhandled us. That is a roster issue. This year was always going to be challenging. Aguilar’s above average play gave us false hope early in the season. We just didn’t have enough quality players in enough depth.
You play offense for show and defense for dough. We need better defensive backs , faster linebackers. We played dominating defense in the nineties. Heuple needs to change some of the defensive coaches . This is a very big challenge for head coaches. The great coaches like Bear, Saban , Neyland would do what was necessary. Great coaches get the most from their players and coaches. The vols defense this year. has been one of the worst UT has had ever. I want to see Heuple take bold decisive steps. If he tolerates mediocrity on defense , he will never win a national title at TN.I'd fire him if we could get Gruden. That's about it
Idk if he has what it takes to win huge games. I honestly think this loss was more on Joey, Oline, Dline. I think the play calling and game management is questionable more often than not.
For someone to choose UT over an LSU or Florida. They likely wouldn’t even then, but I think it could help in the decision. UT is not doing anything this year regardless. But I think it’s the beginning of the end for Heupel. The mistakes and lack of discipline are not what championship coaches do in year 5. I’m predicting another 2-3 years of 7-9 wins before our AD makes a change. He’s done a heck of a job making us respectable again, but it’s fairly clear that he’s not the guy to lead us to another level. Why would that matter?
Good analysis.I think CJH is a 7-5 to 9-3 type coach. This conference is a shark tank . . . As evidenced by Napier, Kelly, Pittman, etc.
Can we get anyone better? I don’t know. Maybe not.
Will he win the SEC? Very unlikely.
What I do know is the themes of poor clock management, poor defense, road game woes, looking poorly coached with pre-snap penalties (admittedly better tonight), and teams that seem to lack focus / lack the ability to make plays in pressure situations . . . Are, to me, pretty obvious.
He needs better players on defense. He may need a new DC.
Maybe we beat Vandy and UF. I highly doubt it. Though maybe unfair (Vandy is legit good this year), when a UT coach loses to Vandy, it leaves a mark. Anyone who has watched UF defense along with the way we play on the road and with our history in the Swamp knows we are at BEST 50/50 in that game.
If he finishes 7-5 when talent wise this is maybe an 8-4 team with losses that look bad to end the year . . . He will not be fired. NO WAY. But, it will be the beginning of the end. JMO. And by that I mean 2 more years of the same trajectory.
