That's because ESPN doesn't include ABC. The only way you could see it is if it is simulcast on ESPN and you have the proper ESPN package. My ESPN app doesn't give me access to any of the games on ABC. It says I have to log-in with my TV provider. I'm sorry. I pay ESPN directly. Why the hell should I have to enter my TV provider?!? So, now they've lost an ESPN subscriber.
If you truly only care about Disney content, why not get the espn bundle instead of Hulu? That’s the direction they’re trying to push people, and imo it makes sense for most people that just care scout college sportsI just don't see the value in the middle men I guess. If YTTV is only refunding me half of what they're saving by not paying Disney, then my feelings for them are now even more negative when I used to be mostly neutral toward them.
I don't care anything about any other content, so I'm already feeling ripped off by having to pay for all the non Disney stuff. If they're going to pocket half of the savings from cutting me off from the only content I care about, then I really don't have any concern for their continued existence.
Sucks I'll have to eventually use the garbage Hulu experience, but middle men need to add more value than that to justify their existence.
There's no way Disney said "you cannot offer our content without also offering paramount content and all the other trash content jave36 cares nothing about."And the cable/bundlers have begged Disney for over two decades to allow them to go alacart but Disney refused. Go read the clay Travis article.
I don't quite understand. If all you care about is the ESPN stuff, then why don't you just go straight to Disney/ESPN. It will cost you less than half of what you'll pay monthly for Youtube TV or Hulu Live.I just don't see the value in the middle men I guess. Ok, let’s clarify a few things.
For as long as cable/cable type streamers existed the contract with carriage rights prevented Disney for putting any of the same properties on cable on any Disney streaming apps. Many years ago(6+) as Disney rolled out their own app Disney got cable types to agree Disney to put those broadcasts think Over the cable ESPN on the ESPN app but only if you authenticated to the cable property with your cable logon.
Then a few years ago as Disney got into these protracted disputes we have seen during football season for years Disney began forcing them to allow all of Disneys channels to be bought as an Unlimited package. Disney basically held all carriage right until the cable company agreed(this is why Spectrum held out so long). After that Disney could put everything in their app.
So if you look at Disneys apps from previous to 2025, it worked like this:
ESPN APP: watch anything that is on your cable subscription from anywhere in US by putting in you cable logon but this did not include the over air ABC broadcasts networks because Disney did not own rights to all of those local signals.
ESPN+: Seperate subscription that allowed you everything not on over the air ABC or on the ESPN app just the extra streaming stuff…PLUS
Now in 2025
Disney has changed all their carriage rights Including those over the air ABC broadcast networks to allow Disney to sell the ESPN Unlimited which has all sports and includes ABC broadcast content.
So if you just have ESPN+ you are still locked into those contracts which says just extra.
If you have just cable provided ESPN, you can get to just what is on your cable provider
If you have Unlimited, eat all you want and yes Unlimited is about taking everyone out of picture and all money/margin straight to Mickey’s(Iger’s) pocket.
Yes Disney has been executing this plan for most of the decade and they have just gotten to where they can cut everyone out.
Honestly I didn't know that was an option. How do you watch it, only on the ESPN app?If you truly only care about Disney content, why not get the espn bundle instead of Hulu? That’s the direction they’re trying to push people, and imo it makes sense for most people that just care scout college sports
Ohio State and Vandy getting EXPOSED.
Ya that wasn't an option when I last researched it. It was Hulu live or YTTV or sling or fubo. How do you access the espn content if you go that route?I don't quite understand. If all you care about is the ESPN stuff, then why don't you just go straight to Disney/ESPN. It will cost you less than half of what you'll pay monthly for Youtube TV or Hulu Live.
I didn’t say that. Disney said if you want ESPN, you have to take all ESPN properties and Disney Channel, and National Geographic and other Disney properties you may not want. The cable companies/bundlers are being black mailed. There's no way Disney said "you cannot offer our content without also offering paramount content and all the other trash content jave36 cares nothing about."
...and Disney can kiss my ass. I just want to be able to watch games the same way every week. I don't want to have to jump through twenty hoops every week to figure out how Disney has decided to f*** me this week.Ok, let’s clarify a few things.
