Makes me wonder...I will tell you now I may very likely go full international broadcast feed pirate if neither Disney or YouTube let me watch this game despite me already paying espn more and me agreeing to all the hikes with youtube.
I know some friends that do and I am about over it all.
It always feels icky choosing sides in corporate warfare, but in this case it's easy to sympathize with Google considering this has been ESPN's M.O. for most of its existence. Its ability to hold carriers hostage to pass on the cost of out-bidding everyone else by ridiculous amounts for media rights is: a) why they were such an attractive add for Disney, b) why they've been forced into pushing subscribers to their own streaming product, which is not as attractive as they seem to think it is considering most streaming TV options already include ESPN and the % of subscribers who are signing up JUST for ESPN is not what they appear to believe it is.I didn't know that about ESPN+. I just read an article with statements from both sides. Ironically, Disney said Google "wants to use their power and extraordinary resources to eliminate competition..."
Pot, meet kettle. YouTube overall (not just YTTV) is valued at $400-$500 billion dollars. Disney as a company has a market cap of $200 billion with ESPN valued at $30 billion.
There is zero doubt, my brother. And honestly, it makes it easier for me to deal with the fact something I used to care very much about, means less to me and is probably only going to continue to mean less as the product gets worse and all the inevitable consequences of the greed of everyone with their hands in the pot in CFB come to bear. Which they will. I know a lot of folks like to carry on like they don't have to suffer the consequences of their own bad actions, but I know how it really works.
This is how low-down Disney/ESPN is: even customers who pay extra for ESPN+ will be unable to stream live games during this carriage dispute. I know some don't seem to know who to blame in all of this. It's 100% Disney trying to push YouTubeTV customers-one of ESPN's largest subscriber bases-to ESPN's new stand-alone app, which if you do purchase, you would still need another streaming TV service to watch any games that aren't on ESPN!
Disney is the most corrupt company in the country and that's a high bar.
Meh. I thought the UI kinda sucked honestly. Maybe for the multi-view stuff, but I can hardly keep up with one game much less four.I won't vouch for any of it. The functionality of YouTubetv was unmatched. But that means eff all when you can't watch the only thing you subscribe for. I really don't think YouTube gets that.
I blame @Dadof2Vols for even knowing all this. He must work for the mouse.Ok, let’s clarify a few things.
For as long as cable/cable type streamers existed the contract with carriage rights prevented Disney for putting any of the same properties on cable on any Disney streaming apps. Many years ago(6+) as Disney rolled out their own app Disney got cable types to agree Disney to put those broadcasts think Over the cable ESPN on the ESPN app but only if you authenticated to the cable property with your cable logon.
Then a few years ago as Disney got into these protracted disputes we have seen during football season for years Disney began forcing them to allow all of Disneys channels to be bought as an Unlimited package. Disney basically held all carriage right until the cable company agreed(this is why Spectrum held out so long). After that Disney could put everything in their app.
So if you look at Disneys apps from previous to 2025, it worked like this:
ESPN APP: watch anything that is on your cable subscription from anywhere in US by putting in you cable logon but this did not include the over air ABC broadcasts networks because Disney did not own rights to all of those local signals.
ESPN+: Seperate subscription that allowed you everything not on over the air ABC or on the ESPN app just the extra streaming stuff…PLUS
Now in 2025
Disney has changed all their carriage rights Including those over the air ABC broadcast networks to allow Disney to sell the ESPN Unlimited which has all sports and includes ABC broadcast content.
So if you just have ESPN+ you are still locked into those contracts which says just extra.
If you have just cable provided ESPN, you can get to just what is on your cable provider
If you have Unlimited, eat all you want and yes Unlimited is about taking everyone out of picture and all money/margin straight to Mickey’s(Iger’s) pocket.
Yes Disney has been executing this plan for most of the decade and they have just gotten to where they can cut everyone out.
There are so many examples of just how ridiculously self-defeating Disney's greed is, but perhaps one of the most stark is the fact that ESPN Unlimited users are forced to watch more commercial time than other streamers. Several people have videos exposing this on YouTube. They claim the broadcasts are live, but they are forcing Unlimited subscribers to watch extra ad time and then they come in as if they were live with the broadcast afterwards even though viewers are now watching on a delay.Ok, let’s clarify a few things.

That is a good point, but my overall point is that not everyone who subscribes to YouTube TV is doing it strictly to watch sports.Agree with the overall sentiment, but you really don’t need any other streaming services to watch games. All vols games will be on espn app. Most people can get fox/nbc/abc/cbs on a basic hd antenna.

Jk thanks, but it is ridiculous.
