ESPN/ABC just went out on YouTube TV

What happens in this situation is ESPN/ABC etc wants to increase what they charge to the cable or TV providers to carry their programs etc. If the providers just give in and pay the increased amount then the providers will pass the cost to us...Then we get pissed because our providers increased our prices...It becomes a stalemate until a medium is reached.

They will. They always do. Just a bunch of greedy, evil corporations trying to claw every penny from viewers. Not sure I'll live to see it, but I expect all content to go PPV. Hey, I grew up listening to games on radio. Might be fun to turn back to that medium again.
I despise Disney, but they had to find a way to cover their losses on their streaming business where they lost $1.5B on streaming in '23 due to overpayment for major sports broadcast rights. They started raising prices to cable providers which resulted in further losses in the number of subscribers. That trend is continuing. The more subscribers that are lost, the more the need to increase the price to cable providers. If cable providers increase their prices, they lose subscribers, so they balk at Disney price increases. Disney and the cable providers are just trying to continue to survive. It's very likely ESPN will cease to exist in the not too distant future.

So, what can I buy to guarantee I can watch the game? I have YouTube as well.

I just canceled my youtubetv. They have espn unlimited now and it’s only 29.99 a month. You get all espn channels and sec networks. Also espn on abc. I was paying 82 a month for YouTube. All I watch is sports so this is perfect.

They Killed of big time boxing by making all the fights pay per view. It used to be a major event. Now it's only mentioned in the footnotes. You're right. The NFL is transitioning to PPV. Thursday night NFL is their pilot program. I would expect them to start with the playoff games first.

Disney is the poison in all this mess. They are demanding high rates from all their distributors and it keeps on doing this year after year. Disney/ABC/ESPN/SECN and all their other affilates have created a monopoly over children and sports programming. Congress needs to get involved and break up this giant creation of a mess that let's face it, it also influencing NIL for college sports, and contracting for all major sports leagues including the NFL. The current state of American sports viewing has now completely left out the viewing public and they have no say so or influence in any ot these decisions. Congress, unfortunately, when US businesses won't be fair to the American people has no choice but to get involved. It is time to boycott Disney, including their programming , Disney resorts, Disney cruise ships, .........EVERYTHING DISNEY! Get Disney our of your daily involvement for a few weeks and they will have to finally make the move to be fair.

I agree with you other than to involve congress. Counting on those criminals to fix any situation is a waste of time because they'll go in whatever way their palms are greased. Disney probably has most of them bought already.

Sounds like a plan. I really do like the YouTube TV interface with DVR, Key Plays, etc but I only watch sports too except for maybe Deadliest Catch and I can do without that. Do you know if the ESPN app has DVR service as well and some of the other features like YouTubeTV?

Here is what I plan on doing: I will just use regular ol YouTube which you can find any game streaming live on now and wait for the corporations to sort out their differences. I'm not buying ESPN's stand-alone service ESPECIALLY when I realize that's what they are trying to push me to do.

A monopoly on sports programming? FOX/B1G Network, Apple TV, Prime, CBS/CBSN, NBC/USA/Peacock, FanDuel Sports Network, TNT/TBS/TruTV, NFLN, MLBN, NHLN, NBA TV, Netflix all have live sports programming.

Not to mention the league passes available for pro sports.

I don't think there's been a more diverse sports programming landscape than currently, honestly.

Everyone bitching about Disney needs to remember that the SEC's media revenue comes directly from them. All of it.
I saw an official tweet from the SEC that provided several links to harass YOUTUBE TV into giving into ESPN's demands. The degree to which those two are in bed with each other now makes me feel icky.

Hope they figure this out by 7:30 Saturday night.
It doesn't sound like it's gonna happen soon. They're each calling out the other for not negotiating in good faith. We added The Disney Network which has Hulu, and Hulu has ABC.
