Game Thread: Lady Vols v Columbus state, Home, Wed., 6:30PM, "SECN+"(stream) (exhibition game)

jeebie great assessment for a player who played five minutes. wow!
I don't appreciate your sarcasm, I've been watching women's college basketball for just as long as you have and I'm pretty good at assessing their playing abilities. I stand by my assessment. I have my opinion just as you do. We shall see how this plays out during the season.

What do you mean only? There are 4 (10) minute quarters in a women’s basketball game. 7 players scored in double figures and 13 players scored in the game.
I figure everyone played by the end of the 1st quarter and after that it was based on the production on the floor in this game.
Would not want you coaching my daughter if thats your answer to how few mins they played time on the floor is improvement

Am I to understand that there are members of VolNation, who pretend to be genuinely somber and pessimistic Lady Vol fans, while posting messages about how much better our opponents are in this forum?

How disillusioning this is
.... 🤔

My biggest takeaway from tonight? Kim Caldwell looks great with long hair, but she doesn't need to lose any more weight.

Go Lady Vols!!!!!
…just a little assist for the sarcasm impaired… 😉🤙🏼🧡

I believe she is talking about wanting the players to translate the execution in critical stages such as driving to the paint, finishing at the rim, not settling for jumpers etc. and decision making in practice to the court during a game in live-action. Coach Caldwell will take the 148 points.
GBO solid🍊!

Where’s DarkPhoenix? Explain how the freshman from LSU performance that you bragged about is any different than the LVs freshmen class? I would even say that I wish ESPN had added Mya Pauldo stats to the mix as well along with the 3 McDonald’s All-Americans.

It will be a long season if everyone keeps obsessing about game time for specific players. The mathematics of 200 available minutes in a 40 min. regulation game, makes it impossible for 14 players to each get 30 minutes a game.

A fully equal balance = 14 minutes per player but the goal of the team and the coaching staff is not to equally allocate minutes but, rather, to find the player combinations that will allow the team to compete at the highest level it possibly can.

As per last year, we will see early season games where everyone gets some floor time but some players will meet the staff's standards and objectives better than others, which means some decent players will fade to the back of the rotation, like Destiny and Favor last season.

At this level, it is all about performance, not fan sentiments. Players know what they have signed up for.

Last season, this team finished 8th in conference. This finish gets forgotten amidst all the positive buzz but that was the worst conference finish for a LV team since forever. CKC and staff brought in 8 new players to redress the deficiencies that limited the preceding squad's success. It is inevitable that some returners might see reduced roles (flip side- imagine if some of these new players are not major upgrades, that outcome would spell big time trouble).

From the players standpoint, they all need to be ready to make the most of their minutes when they do get on the floor and their performances will sort out the rest.

For fans, let the coaching staff worry about player minutes. This exhibition game, if nothing else, indicates that this team will be very fun to watch, no matter who is on the floor.

It’s going to be different almost every night with this group. I love the style and love that many players have an opportunity to contribute. It’s truly up to them how much they play.

We significantly improved our guard and forward players this season and it will likely move a returner or two down the pecking order. The goal is to win a National Championship though and we made the roster changes necessary to compete at that level imo.

Sam Spencer was the only guard we had who was quick enough to play like we wanted last season and that was a lot on her. Now we have 4 players in Mia, Mya, Nya and Jaida who can flat get after it. Kaniya can add her name to that list but it’s up to her.

Coop and Ruby can focus on playing the SG positions like they should be and don’t have to handle the ball much.

+/- says Janiah, Zee, Nya, Ruby, Talaysia, Jersey, and Mia kicked tail.

And also Alyssa, Mya, and Jaida, who all had a higher plusminus per minute (all close to +3/m) than the team's average (+2.5/m)

i.e. the team offense/defense'd with them better than without them -- small sample, tho.

Will haf to see how our girls +/- against actual high-major competition in NCSt before concluding, of course! but there's at least some validation for being high on those three, in spite of not playing starting-5 minutes yesterday. We'll know a lot more about our team after Greensboro.

LOL yeah. They really gotta stop with that. I thought their attendance was fine for a weeknight exhibition game against Columbus State. No need to fluff. If anything it draws more attention to the disparity.
It’s not fluff. UT reports tickets sold, in line with SEC policy for every sport.

there are new rules at the arena:

"No Lanyard, no sitting in the first 15 rows" (in the 5 center court sections). And this is enforced with the threatening of jobs for the people who work those aisles.

No lanyard, no access to the floor

The article said "in front of a crowd of 10,159 on Wednesday night." There is no way on Earth there were 10,000 people in the seats at that game. SEC policy may be to report tickets sold, but the article said "a crowd of 10,159." I watched a good chunk of their exhibition. I do not believe there were 10,000 people in the crowd.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, but I have eyes. We all have eyes. It's nothing new, I realize, but that doesn't make the number any more realistic. That's all I mean when I say "fluff."

Semantics,,,the tickets/seats were sold,,,if unoccupied, they were still sold.
Next game thread will be posted on Sunday afternoon

Civil's energy is through the roof. She is so similar to Cooper in body, the way she moves and plays and even somewhat hairstyle and overall look that there were times when I would think Cooper was in but then realize that it was #15, not 55. I think she most showed her renown competitiveness when a large CSU player fouled and fell upon a LV player (not sure who but it seems like one of our guards). When the CSU did not get up in ample time, Civil went over and started lifting up the player off the LV. It wasn't 100% aggressive but her movement and attitude did suggest to get the hell off our player. Fortunately, she didn't get called for a technical. I do think if the CSU player had responded with aggression, that it would not have been a pretty sight. Love her competitive edge but hope she can make wise decisions while being so passionate.

I loved that moment actually it’s the swag n intensity Tennessee has been missing since Bobbitt hornbuckle and Auguste…Caldwell said she wanted dogs and we have a team full of them n besides that gth off my teammate when she on the ground lol ill take that all day everyday…if Zoe Brooks have one moment of going off Tuesday im sticking Civil on her

I seen enough of these young ladies and they preformed. The biggest surprise to me was Latham , she showed a lot of progress and still may be number 8 or 9 on the depth chart.
nice stat line:
8 pts, 5 FT attempts made 4, 2-2 fgs (no 3's,,,but they'll come),,4 boards, 2 blocks, 1 steal...No turnovers, no fouls...

Last year 16 mins 3.9 pts
This game 11 mins 8 pts

def headed in the right direction
