Game Thread: Lady Vols v Columbus state, Home, Wed., 6:30PM, "SECN+"(stream) (exhibition game)

Mia Pauldo is the experience of a senior point guard playing as a freshman. Her decision making last night was superior. She had seven assists and 3 rebounds to go with four made three pointers and a total of 18 points. She also had four steals and zero turnovers. Efficiency rating 55. That was some awesome 17 minutes and 40 second stat line.

She played very well. She broke a few ankles last night and moved the ball smartly to go with her scoring.

I would look for 20 steals per game to be the goal against the better teams we had 30 against this team and forced a total of 45 turnovers. Coach KIm liked our effort, but did not like our rebounding or foul shooting. Foul shooting was the low point for us 67 percent however we shot 52 foul shots. I would be more than happy to take that percentage if we got 52 attempts in a game. Ended up with 67 rebounds which I thought was awesome considering the 30 steals and 45 total forced turnovers.

We ended up with 92 shots tonight to their 66 which is about were team would like to be every game plus 26 more shot attempts.

I didn't think either played very well...nor Wynn to be honest.
Somebody is going to only get four or five minutes just based on this one game that would be Boyd, Wynn, and Hurst. It could be other players that only play that amount in certain games as like last year all depends on how you play when your in there.

Well stated.

For me, those three were not in the top-10 players last night.

Could have been first game jitters / nerves. Work hard and things always change as the season goes along.

Finishing up watching the replay from the exhibition.
Coach Caldwell and her staff has built the deepest roster in WBB.
They are 11-deep w/ the potential to extend to 12 night in and night out.
This group will run NC State out of the gym.
One the most physically athletic and skilled basketball teams to come through in the NIL and portal era.
I don’t think CKC and the entire coaching staff get enough credit for their ability to implement this uptempo system and player development. The Lady Vols are thriving in a pro system and brand of basketball on the collegiate level.
Two players that looked outstanding that didn’t have the best stat-lines in numbers but impact stood out was Alyssa Latham and Deniya Prawl.

She blew my mind. Even against a super quick opponent, she was totally unbothered by their pesky defense and somehow managed to never turn the ball over.

I'm chompin' at the bit now to see how she holds up against opponents with lots of size. I sure wouldn't bet against her.

Coop caused a lot of chaos as CS brought the ball up. She’s sneaky and quicker than they think.
Think you misunderstood when I said press.. I was meaning that Cooper should just let the twins and Robertson bring ball down and take that stress off of herself and just focus on putting ball in the bucket......last season Cooper tried to do it all during some games ,this year she shouldn't have to.

Has nothing to do with the full court press...

As I remember (which may be wrong), Wynn passed up a wide open three.

She just hesitated like a lack of confidence / rusty
Yeah, she looked to me to still be playing catch-up with regard to conditioning and game confidence. She's been through a lot. But that smile after she scored her first points was definitely one of the highlights of the game for me. Kaiya will always bring honor to the program, and that's special. 🧡

Yes, I concur. She has been thru A LOT of things.

I understood what you were saying..... I just had other thoughts not that yours was wrong.....

Lauren Hurst would be wise to play volleyball for the Lady Vols and forget about playing basketball. She was the player of the year last season in Tennessee high school volleyball. With her size of 6'3" she would do very well as an outside hitter. I would love to see her on the volleyball court. Like Volfan2012 stated, she is going to see only limited playing time in basketball. Why not make her time at UT more productive and enjoyable.

Hurst will be an asset on the basketball team next season with all the bigs graduating... Her time will come, plus I read that the Volleyball team is recruiting very well ...

Kim would not have recruited her if she was not what Kim values. I don't predict what value a player may bring in the future but Lauren may very well turnout to be a star for all any fan knows. Wasn't Izzie a VB player too? She turned out to be pretty good. Might have won a Natty had she not gotten hurt.

Lauren is no doubt a good basketball player but from what I saw at the game last night her skill level is not quite up to some of the other Lady Vols. Kim has some real hosses on this team, and unless Lauren can find a role like Tess Darby had I don't see her playing much. I just don't want her to waste her time and talent by not switching to volleyball where I think she would be a much better fit.
