This could be or might not be all that feasible, so what say you Vol Nation? Yay or Nay?

Gotta balance expectations…what is fixable is basics, assignment and execution to some degree. We are hamstrung with our talent at db and lb (to lesser degree) and can’t solve that. Emphasis on strength which is DL pass rush. Problem is getting to down and distance on 2nd and 3rd down…and then getting off the field. If they solve 50% and get moderately better we will win the rest of our games. If no, we could lose at least two more games

Not this late in the season. Players aren’t going to start tackling or take better angles to make plays at this point. The problem with the secondary spans many seasons and doesn’t seem to be improving which is very concerning as many have pointed out.

If it is fixable, what are they waiting on??? They can't tackle worth a crap and got some playing with no effort. He can start the fix by getting rid of Banks after the season

Let's see which position group usually plays like ****.....not just this year but for years now....Secondary...Martinez is the common denominator we were terrible when he was here with Butch and here we are still..I know we lost some key guys this year but even still they can't cover anybody regardless of talent..they leave guys wide open and they don't even try to make tackles ..all just my opinion of course🤣
Martinez is not the problem, good grief! Banks is the problem! The safeties are terrible and Banks coaches safeties!!!

Post Kentucky - what they are saying.

"Tenn is definitely better but they are going nowhere. The gave up a gazillion points to us. Gotta be the worst defense we’ve seen in conference play. It’s basically air raid orange and that don’t win championships"

"Agree, UTs defense sucks."

It is fixable. I'm not going to call CJH a liar. The real question is do they have what they need to fix it including the will?

Fixable yes. Not sure this late in the season any measure of improvement will happen. Fixable seems more like a from one season to the next or the start of a new season from game 1 to maybe 3 or 4. For me, what you see is what you've got for the remainder of the season.

Gotta get Boo off the field, he's already got 1 foot in the transfer portal.

I don't know for certain but his attitude and poor attitudes in general are contagious. I suspect he wouldn't be playing without injuries to all three starters. If he is here next year, I would be shocked. He probably needs to go and possible get a fresh start somewhere

I don't think it is "fixable" but definitely improvable. I couldn't believe that we weren't being more aggressive pursuing safeties in the portal after we lost that recruit to florida. Our young CBs improve every game. The young lb's will make mistakes, but they have SEC speed and can make plays. I don't see much changing at nickel and safety....that being said, the safeties are making a ridiculous number of tackles. When they are having to make up for LB deficiencies, that hamstrings them in coverage. LB improves and everyone improves.

Our Defense is very fixable:

Need All American Corner McCoy back

Need future NFL Corner Gibson back

Need to move Hood to Nickel and sit Boos sorry half-ass down on the bench

Need all SEC LB Arion Carter back

Even with poor Safety play, just having OUR starters HEALTHY makes this a top 30 defense in FBS and we would be 8-0 or at WORST 7-1 right now and ranked top10 ready to make a playoff run. Period. Just need OUR OWN starters on the field. Ta-Da...

I know, I know.

"Every team has injuries, next man up."

Yeah...no. Losing a starting Cornerback is almost as bad as losing your QB. Nobody has 2nd team players as good as their Starters in the NIL era. So the opposing QB is gonna absolutely ABUSE your replacement (see: UGA game). Thats down 1 Corner. Losing BOTH Corners for the season?? Its AMAZING that we are 6-2 SEC and thats only because we have a top5 offense in the nation to outscore other teams.

All thats needed to "fix" our defense is to get healthy in the offseason....and hopefully grab a couple Safeties from the portal including 1 guy that can start Day1 next year. The good news is Hood likely stays 1 more year to get his draft stock higher, and Gibson will definitely be back next year. As long as those 2 are healthy we will be quite good at Corner next year too. Right now, our Dline only has about 2 seconds to try and get a sack before the ball is out....and thats WITH giving 6 and 8 yard cushions outside at Corner to keep from getting beat deep. We can go back to playing lots of Man defense again next year.
