Would Josh Heupel LEAVE Tennessee for another job?

Especially the way the Governor came out and said basically that the AD doesn't run the show.

I'm sorry but this is among one of the more foolish reactions to Landry's press conference yesterday. Woodward will not be at LSU in 2026. Landry basically came out and called bullsh!t on coaching buyout in general and Jimmy Sexton being the agent working both sides.

Woodward has fleeced 2 schools for $125m and people are shocked that a SEC fanbase is outraged at that and are going to make damn sure he isn't around to make the next choice. It doesn't hurt the governor has deep ties to LSU (I know this personally) and is saying that program needs a change overall.

Landry basically used his pulpit to sideline Woodward and said a committee will make the hire. Landry said he himself will not be making the hire, but he used his position to sideline Woodward.

LSU will have a new AD when the new coach is hired. So this notion that the AD doesn't run the show is media dramatics. The AD that is getting sidelined won't be there much longer.

Are CJH and his family happy in Knoxville? Are his kids happy and doing well in school and other activities? Are CJH and Dawn happy with their kids education and opportunities? Is there anything that they want or need that is better or best in some other college setting?

I don’t think CJH is going anywhere else during this coaching carousel.

Given the buyouts just this year, I can't see any big time coach accepting an offer that Landry would be satisfied with, if he is honest about his concern with buyouts. Of course, he may be more amenable to paying stupid money to people on his own political wavelength, so I wouldn't be too surprised at a stupid offer for Dabo Swinney.

It is simple. We are going to move to new era of coaching pay where they just get paid more annually with bigger incentives in exchange for smaller buyouts.

You think Kelly wouldn't have taken 50-100% more annual pay in exchanged for a $10m buyout? He was there 4 years and got paid $9-10M per year. I'd be hard pressed to find a coach who wouldn't take $15-18m per year with next to no buyout. They paid him about $39m for his 4 seasons and now flirting with $50m buyout. That is still a lot more than if he was making $15m per season with minimal buyout

I don't see it happening. I haven't heard Heupel on anyone else's radar. And if anyone tried to take Heupel from us at UT, you could bet your @$$ that Danny White would meet with boosters and have them open up their hearts and checkbooks to entice Coach Heupel to stay in Knoxville for the long haul.
He makes more than enough. Let's wait to we at least make the SEC championship game or win a playoff game or two.

I don't think Kelly would have coached for 1 year at $15 million instead of having a buyout that kept him employed for 4 years in spite of infuriating the fan base literally every year he was there. Hopefully your coach is smart enough to know how a buyout is as much about punishing the employer for letting you go early as it is about the raw paycheck.

I think Danny would pull strings to keep Heupel until it hits a certain price point, as stability during these times is worth a lot.

However, as others have mentioned, there is a price that Danny would probably not match and Heupel could jump ship for it.

LSU governor can’t tolerate the LSU AD. Fires him ( a definite). LSU Governor wants the best up and coming AD, hires Danny White for $4 million a year. Danny White hires Heupel for $12 million a year.

This is how we know we have a great HC. Everyone that's looking for a HC wants him. That being said LSU and Florida can keep dreaming. Heup ain't going nowhere.

Of course he would leave if the price and job were right, nothing is sacred in the era of NIL especially loyalty to a school or team. That should be more than obvious by now

OU is the only school Heupel might consider because his Dad lives 35 minutes from Norman in Edmund. However, there is a deep wound there and it is not just with Josh. It's also with his Father. I have heard he has shunned the OU community for years now.
Remember, Josh also lost his Mom two years ago to cancer.
On One of his shows, Pate said that if Oklahoma was on fire, Heupel would make sure he was hydrated instead of giving them water .

Haha I believe it. Yeah, I said MIGHT and that is only because of family. Life changes with a loss of a loved one especially a parent. If Josh was in Norman he could be eating dinner with his dad in the evenings.

LSU is the one job that i would be worried about with him if they truly want to calm the program down. Hell even with the Chaos in that administration, it has to be enticing for a coach knowing the talent that is on autopilot to come there. There is no doubt he would have better classes and talent at LSU over Tennessee. Brian Kelly never had an identity there in regards to the program. Heupel among others does and an identity is what that program desperately needs.

With that said, my worry meter for him to actually go there is at 10%

Easiest way to avoid it all together is making the playoff. That means schools with openings will have to wait until New Years at minimum and they won’t wait that long for a coach that may or may not take it. If you’re a school that barely misses the playoff, the coaching carousel is gonna come calling to see interest as soon as the playoff selections are announced. I’d rather be in the playoff because it will be a foregone conclusion none of the 12 coaches will be entertaining vacancies in middle of getting ready for a playoff run.
LSU is way over rated as a power school. They've wandered in the desert just like we did after Fulmer left. Saban gave them a ring and so did Joe Burrow but they are still wandering lost in the desert
