Would Josh Heupel LEAVE Tennessee for another job?

Would he leave for the right job?

Absolutely.

Would he leave for UF or LSU?

No.
I think he'd be a great fit in either place. At UF, they'd see him as the next Spurrier. LSU is the better job tho. Still, I think with a UT win Saturday, OU fires Venebles and comes for Heupel. Prediction....Heupel senses our fan base is getting antsy so he might want to restart his clock somewhere else and return home while the getting is good. Kiffin will enjoy courtship from LSU and UF until Heupel's decision is known and if he does leave, Kiffin slides right on back to Knoxville for his second term as the Vols head coach.

Although the Vols play in the toughest conference on the planet in all of sports, most years there should be a path to the playoffs with 2 and some years possibly 3 losses. 2 loss Big 10, Big 12 and ACC teams would not get in over 2 loss SEC teams. No way. This alone makes it harder at other schools while most think it would be easier.

If it were me (which it never will be) I'd take my chances winning 10+ games at Tennessee over having to win 11+ games at places like VTech for a path to the playoffs. The playoff is now the benchmark for every program, big and small. VTech wants to make the playoffs and have a shot, they don't want to settle for 8, 9 wins max with the Music City Bowl every year. If that's their goal, no players will sign up for that in this day and age. It's all about making the playoff and Tennessee is the more likely path year in and year out.

Yall are stuck on 2015 and don't get it's 2025. In this new era of NIL in-state recruiting is no longer that important. Its about money now and resources. Tennessee is in a better position with regard to that than LSU. Texas and Oregon are really the only programs who are a step above us in terms of resources.

The only way a coach leaves a cash rich program is for one that is even richer. That's the game now. Not in-state recruiting base.
Except the stats don't back up your claim....kinda like always

Here's my thoughts in Heupel leaving...for what they are worth. LOL

Oklahoma broke CJH in the manner that the way he was cut loose it taught him about loyalty. He never wants to be, or put anyone in, that position again.

That means he is going to be crazy loyal to UT and Danny White. BUT...it also hurts us if he's so loyal to the other coaches that he doesn't make changes when they are needed.

Does he leave UT this year...highly doubt he does as there isn't a job open yet that gives him what he has here.

All of that said, one day someone will come knocking that can't be refused...very much like the Tony V scenario.

OU is the only school Heupel might consider because his Dad lives 35 minutes from Norman in Edmund. However, there is a deep wound there and it is not just with Josh. It's also with his Father. I have heard he has shunned the OU community for years now.
Remember, Josh also lost his Mom two years ago to cancer.

Whoever the next LSU coach ends up being , will be running against the wind every step of the way. I'd be weary of that situation.
LSU is a top 3 job in college football. Highy fertile in-state recruiting, plus they draw from Texas and Mississippi. They also have a crazy fanbase with a great gameday atmosphere. There is absolutely zero reason why a competent head coach cant win there. 3 of their last 4 coaches won nattys there and 2 of those 3 weren't exactly coaching geniuses. Kelly was just a terrible fit for that place.

This year has so many openings already that there will be impacts to so many coaching staffs, including ours. I don’t see him leaving this year but in this new era of CFB, we won’t see head coaches staying at a single school for 10 years+ like in the previous era.

I wish that someone could dig up the thread from the day that the Kiffin rumors first broke. I recall an absolute assurance from some involved that he had a great recruiting class and didn’t want to be involved in NCAA trouble. I don’t think Heupel would leave, but some people will never learn that they don’t know other people as well as they think they do.
The night that Kiffin left the mattresses burned hot, but the Volnation servers burned hotter, shutdown the site. If you remember that night on here, that was a crazy one.

Like I said I was driving to JC from Atlanta. I got to the river and a friend of mine who is a Bama alum texted me to ask “is this for real “ I had no idea what he was talking about. By the time I stopped for gas at Papermill there was no cell service and VN was cooked.

Florida's best bet would be Golesh - I pray they are stupid as usual.
LSU would be a minor concern but really they would be more likely to go after Kiffin

I think CJH is pretty solid here mostly because as many have said, Danny White - who also understands what Heupel wants. As long as the money is not too far off, I dont see him going anywhere for awhile.

LSU has to take the risk of waiting until New Years to interview and deal with Kiffin. There is no way in hell any coach in the middle of a playoff run is going to take time to interview with other schools outside of a G5 coach.
