In the spirit of good sportsmanship?

Would you be pulling for both Vandy and Memphis to advance in the playoffs following their outstanding seasons?

The Vols are still alive in the discussion of course but if the missed field goal vs. Georgia knocks Tennessee out of the playoffs - would you then be a temporary fan of in-state cousins, Vanderbilt and/or Memphis to have a historic season?

I believe a few won't but the majority of Tennessee Vol fans will.
Absolutely not! I feel about Vandy the way Jauan Jennings feels about Vandy.

Vandy is earning it…Memphis league schedule should disqualify them. Simply not the same level of football IMO. They EASILY should have lost to Arkansas and the UAB team is horrendous but Memphis lost to them. Let’s compare apples to apples. Some are referring to that playoff spot as the “Welfare Slot” for a reason. It’s kinda ridiculous IMO anyways.

Wish I was that classy.

Would prefer another earthquake where Memphis falls off into the Mississippi.

Don't even get me started on Vandy. But, will say, with Drink on the other sideline, I wasn't rooting against Vandy on Sat.

Nope. I'd cheer for any other team, cult, biker gang etc. before vandie or tiger high. :(

Not caring about how other teams finish has absolutely nothing to do with sportsmanship. Another silly thread, imagine that. GBO

No, a majority will not. Not a snowball’s chance in Hades that I would pull for either one.

Vandy is a non-factor for me. Doesn’t matter what they do, they will always be little brother. This year’s game at least will be a bit more interesting since both may have a playoff berth on the line. Lots of work for both teams before that happens.

Like the guy said earlier, I also live in Shelby County and I wouldn’t pull for Memphis if they were playing the Taliban. You would have to be a Vol fan in Shelby County to understand. They despise UT and none of them would pull for UT under any circumstance. They spend more time hating the SEC than they do rooting for their own team. I tend to try to avoid them, sort of like an annoying gnat.

Absolutely not. I would actively root against them both.

Edit: unless they were playing Bama, then I'd be on the Vandy/Memphis wagon for one game.

I'm not pulling for anybody from the state of Tennessee or the SEC unless it is the good guys in the proper shade of orange.

Absolutely I would. Either making the playoffs would be a great story.

OP do you have ANY idea how completely insufferable - and that meaning more than currently so, the average Vandy fan would be if they actually made the playoff and we did not?

And well I remember when Vandy actually beat us during the lean hard years.

There are something like 130 students from Tennessee enrolled at Vanderbilt so what real connection do they have to the state?

Add with their new campuses in NYC and FL, given the choice I suspect most faculty, staff and students would much rather the school be located somewhere else.

Yah, I saw that same report, Dobre, but the math didn't make any sense.

The report said 133 Vandy undergrads are from Tennessee. But it also said 9% of undergrads were from Tennessee. Since Vandy has around 7,200 undergrads, 9% should be somewhere around 650. And in yet ANOTHER part of that report, it said "the majority of Vanderbilt students who live in the US are from Tennessee." A majority being 50% or higher, that would indicate somewhere north of 3,600 of them are Tennesseans.

In short, the report is unreliable, because it's all over the map. Quite possibly either AI-generated or undergrad-generated lol.

But I did see multiple sources reporting figures around 10% of them being Tennesseans (from a low of 9% to a high of 13%). So I'm gonna guess there are about 700 +/- of them.

(my daughters were two of them about a decade ago lol).

Having said all that, your main point is absolutely valid. Vandy students are by and large not Tennesseans.

Go Vols!

p.s. here's the wonky report referenced: Geographic Diversity of Vanderbilt University Students
