For the fire Banks crowd.

Let me ask you this do you know what position he also coaches in defense? I ask this because it’s the one position that hasn’t got any better since he’s been here. Also the biggest reason we were better in defense last year is because we ran the ball most of time with not many explosive plays so we kept the defense off field keep that in mind And before you say well that’s why his numbers don’t look good we are also talking about a coordinator who doesn’t adjust at all in game it’s game plan and that’s it no adjustment
Last year our opponents still had the ball more than we did so it’s not like we played ball control offense. 2024 TOP was 29:35. This year is 26:43. That’s a difference of 2:52. Maybe we just had a good defense last year and this year we don’t.

I’m done with excuses for Banks. Explain last years Ohio State game if our defense was elite.

What I would like to know, is how does Martinez continue to get a pass? Under him (both stents) our DB’s give up plays at terrible times and if he doesn’t have elite talent (not just this year) they are atrocious!
Martinez is not the problem. Banks is! The safeties are terrible, and guess who their coach is... Banks?

I understand your point. These players are not executing. But if losing just two players in the secondary causes this kind of drop off then we have a serious recruiting and development issue. Also we are seeing the exact same issues game after game. Players have to execute but some of these defensive coaches are not earning their paychecks. I mean sometimes they don’t even know how to line up correctly. That’s coaching.
We didnt just lose 2 players though. Attrition in the secondary has been rough on this team. People also forget that Jourdan Thomas was going to figure greatly in this lineup before the decision was made in fall camp to give him a medical redshirt. We also lost Jakobe Thomas to Miami in the spring! We also lost Christian Charles to Virginia, along with Jordan Thomas to Vanderbilt! That **** adds up, man and we only managed to replace all that attrition in the portal with Colton Hood. Why? Hell, I dont know. Maybe no one else wanted to come here or maybe we werent offering enough NIL, or maybe this staff didnt think any other DB's in the portal besides Hood could play. Whatever the reason, we have GOT to stop pretending like the secondary attrition isnt a factor here, because it is! However some people seem to be more interested in building rapsheets on the coaching staff than looking at the facts.

Give me another example right now of a team who's entire first team defensive secondary is out, but still playing at a high level! Ill wait!

Who said “high” level? I didn’t. I said a competent defense and yes every team in the SEC, minus one, has had injuries and yet somehow manages to field a competent defense. Apparently, expectations for Tim Banks are unreasonable.

What kind of oddly emotional drivel is this? Are you related to Tim Banks? If so, ask him to resign for the good of the team

Interesting you put it that way because all I did was present facts. Its the "fahr Tim Banks" crowd thats being emotional. Our defensive secondary is gutted!

We have 12+ cbs iir. If we are gutted losing 2, we need to recruit and develop better. And we aren’t gutted at safety, just poorly coached.
The only emotion involved is with those who get upset at people pointing out the obvious, that big game banks sucks.

We didnt lose 2. Go back and read my post again. And we are playing a lot of youth/freshmen.

There was never a plan for Jourdan Thomas to play this year. His career is over. And I don’t blame Jakobi for leaving for a DC who puts him in position to make plays and not sitting back 30 yards off the ball on 3rd and 4.
You are complaining about losing players while being unaware a major reason safety play sucks is due to Banks coaching and he’s a **** recruiter.
If I’m sitting there with my safety son as a recruit, we aren’t going to play for Banks. No chance.

I appreciate the sentiment. And the effort.

But you're bringing logic to a discussion with a crowd who don't use logic. They are driven purely by emotion. Logic rolls off their brains like water off a duck's back.

Thank goodness Donde Plowman, Dan White, and Josh Heupel are intelligent folk who do employ logic, and are fully capable of ignoring the emotion-driven element of our community.

Go Vols!
What does goodness have to do with this? Why thank "it"?

Do you think he forgot how to coach in one year? Last year half here were afraid he would leave for a head coaching job.

It has a lot more to do with the players on the field than many want to admit.

The Tennessee Vols defense in 2024 was outstanding, finishing sixth nationally in total defense and seventh in scoring defense, allowing just 16.1 points per game. The unit was characterized by depth on the defensive line and at linebacker, improved play from an overhauled secondary, and strong performance in key metrics like third-down defense and tackles for loss.

Key takeaways
  • Overall performance:
The defense was one of the best in the nation, holding 10 of 13 opponents to fewer than 20 points.

  • Key rankings:
    • 6th in total defense
    • 7th in scoring defense
    • 3rd in third-down defense
    • 5th in yards per play
    • 10th in run defense and tackles for loss
1 good year. Your welcome. That defense was packed full of talent. He has proven he can get it done packed full of talent, but absolutely sucks when asked to do more with less. We deserve better.

The only defense of Tim Banks is an emotional one. A factual one can't be made unless you ignore what your eyes have seen while he has been the DC as a whole not just a cherry picked year. No one could look at this defense as a whole over the last five years, outside of a handful of specific players, and come to the conclusion that it is fundamentally sound and well coached. He doesn't recruit well. His position group is and has been one of the worst on the team consistently and you can't name more than a couple of games where the defense has played a competent offensive team and looked well prepared. Alabama 2024? Kentucky 2022? We are talking about a handful of games at most in five seasons.
