It was well past the LOS, so we will just disagree on that. You can use the black line. I noticed the WR not blocking yet, but the Bama one did have the defender engaging quicker and not Staley actively going after him. I get the differences.

All I am saying is that it's all pretty close, and a play that is generally not called.

The AD is responsible for the 2 biggest buyouts in college football history (he hired Fisher and hired and fired Kelly). The fact he's allowed to pick a new coach at all is shocking.

If Heupel is looking for AD support and stability then he should stay as far away from LSU as possible.

It was on target bc Mike ran under it. Joey put it up so his guy could make a play (an under appreciated skill) and Mike did by adjusting to it. Beautiful stuff

Idk, I think you just gave the biggest sales pitch for a prospective coach.

Go to LSU, where you’ll likely only make it 4-5 years but end up $50M richer at the end.

Only problem is that we have no room to screw up. If you take that risk and lose, you are out of the playoffs. If we only had one loss, then the risk would be worth the payoff.

That's what bugs me. If it's a regular non screen route the DB can jam/press within 2 or 3 yards of LOS before ball is thrown with no PI or holding.

So teams that coach man press get rewarded on WR screens, their DB can just press the blocking WR as normal and if the ball is caught past the LOS there's a chance you get OPI called. I know it's asking a lot, but IMO if the DB initiates the contact with the block WR then it shouldn't be a OPI....the penalty is designed to prevent a WR from faking a route and engaging 5+ yards off the LOS.

I think that the weirdest part is how our defense is all or nothing. They either make great plays or look like they’ve never played. I feel like we very rarely see “middle of the road” defensive play.

All depends on if the player is ready to go and/or cleared by medical staff

In the 2010 BCS National Championship game, Greg McElroy's passing stats were 6-for-11 for 58 yards and zero touchdowns against Texas.

Joey threw for more on one play than McElroy did that entire game.

It's so rare for a college qb to throw a screen beyond the LOS that it's unlikely playing press coverage is considered an advantage for the reason you mentioned. And a WR with his hands extended to block is considered blocking, it doesn't matter if the DB runs into him. If the WR is trying to run a route, that's a different story.

I guarantee you nfl scouts are dinging Joey for that bad habit, because nfl OL have almost no grace on being downfield on passes beyond the LOS. All the angst and ire toward the officials really should be directed toward Joey for continuing to throw that pass poorly. That's a terrible habit he needs to fix.

That Bama pass especially was WAY too far downfield. The WR is setting up behind the LOS, so if Joey misses, the WR has to move downfield, making it look like the pass is caught even farther beyond the LOS than it is.

Unbelievable to lose 3 corners and now the heart of the defense. Man I wish our bye week was this weekend and not next. We need this one bad.
