The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

I know Ament's numbers weren't poppin off the charts but he's got that smooth factor. The game looks easy for him. That's how I get a feeling of how good a player is going to be. When decisions and shots look like second nature. I can't wait to watch him as the season progresses.

Fox 43 lost their World Series feed in the middle of the 11th or 12th inning. They finally figured out how to turn it back on in the top of the 14th.

They ran some of the 10 o’clock news replay, Family Feud, TMZ, a ton of commercials, and a graphic saying that they were experiencing technical difficulties. That’s what happens when you have an intern running the station after midnight. The World Series. Geez. Somebody needs to lose their job - like the GM, not the intern.

I hope they don’t have any UT games scheduled.

I hate UK fans with a passion. They seem to forgot what happened last time we played them. Some are glad they missed on Ament after one scrimmage lol. They think we aren't going to be a top 25 team.

For a “basketball school”, Kentucky fans continuously show their ass and lack of actual basketball knowledge. In a sport that plays 82 games every season in the professional ranks, you think they’d realize that making sweeping conclusions about a team or player after one game is silly. But, the Mild Cats are a pretty uneducated basketball fanbase so wouldn’t expect anything less from them.

Imagine it like our football forum and then it all makes sense

Predictions on minutes now that we've seen the exhibition, could obviously be off but I can see it generally as follows, with obvious variation in individual games and based on matchups:

PG: Gillespie 30 / Burg 5 / Henderson 5
SG: Burg 15 / Abram 15 / Boswell 10
SF: Ament 30 / Burg 5 / Abram 5
PF: Carey 20 / Phillips 15 / Brown 5
C: Okpara 25 / Estrella 15

Mins:
Gillespie - 30
Ament - 30
Okpara - 25
Burg - 25
Carey - 20
-
Abram - 20
Phillips - 15
Estrella - 15
Boswell - 10
Brown - 5
Henderson - 5
-
Evans - Spot minutes
Massamba - Spot minutes

I’d like to see a few actual games, the rotations against Duke were pretty far from what was expected, curious to see how it changes.
I think the bigs may change a bit game to game, with everyone in that 15-20 range barring Okpara and likely Brown on the lower end. Also happen to think that Boswell will get fewer minutes and just got time for continuity/CRB message purposes, that CRB will trust Burg sooner rather than later (I was super impressed), and that Henderson won't usually be scratched. But who really knows!

Based on the rave reviews for Brown (I missed much of the first half), I'm surprised that he only gets 5 minutes. Even with the depth with the bigs, that just seems low for someone who is apparently ready to play and contribute. Anyone else care to chime in?

Scheyer clearly played this game like a tournament game, while Barnes treated it as a scrimmage, going deep into the bench with a lot of experimentation with lineups and getting a look at a lot of different combinations. A few of my observations:

* Ament is going to be a stud, but was pressing understandably while Barnes gave him a ton of freedom to iso. I would expect Barnes & Co. to find ways within the structure of the offense to get him to his spots, and I doubt we'll see 5-19 too often.

* Jakobe will find his way in the offense as well, but he is clearly electric with the ball. When he and Ament start to jell, look out.

* Felix is a monster, and if he can add some touch off the roll and the occasional 3-ball, he'll easily be all-SEC.

* This is the deepest frontcourt I can remember in Barnes' time here, and once Carey finds his niche and JP gets his sea legs, it becomes a major strength.

* DeWayne Brown is a freshman? Really? Wow.

* Boswell is such a great kid, and has skills. If he could find even a semblance of a 3-ball he would get solid minutes.

* Love Burg's fire and tenacity, and he already looks to be taking a leadership role. Great pickup.

I really believe this group has a chance to be the best and most complete team we have seen under Barnes. There are a lot of things that have to be ironed out and fall into place, but Barnes teams have a habit of coming together as the season goes on.

I will say when asked about Boswell on the post game show, Barnes was very positive towards him and his play Sunday night. A little scary.
Barnes isn't going to say Boswell is only the placeholder starter until Abrams is more consistent or Burg is better on defense.

Everyone with 2 eyes can see what his offense is though so we will see how long it lasts for him as the starter or worse as a closer.
