Scheyer clearly played this game like a tournament game, while Barnes treated it as a scrimmage, going deep into the bench with a lot of experimentation with lineups and getting a look at a lot of different combinations. A few of my observations:
* Ament is going to be a stud, but was pressing understandably while Barnes gave him a ton of freedom to iso. I would expect Barnes & Co. to find ways within the structure of the offense to get him to his spots, and I doubt we'll see 5-19 too often.
* Jakobe will find his way in the offense as well, but he is clearly electric with the ball. When he and Ament start to jell, look out.
* Felix is a monster, and if he can add some touch off the roll and the occasional 3-ball, he'll easily be all-SEC.
* This is the deepest frontcourt I can remember in Barnes' time here, and once Carey finds his niche and JP gets his sea legs, it becomes a major strength.
* DeWayne Brown is a freshman? Really? Wow.
* Boswell is such a great kid, and has skills. If he could find even a semblance of a 3-ball he would get solid minutes.
* Love Burg's fire and tenacity, and he already looks to be taking a leadership role. Great pickup.
I really believe this group has a chance to be the best and most complete team we have seen under Barnes. There are a lot of things that have to be ironed out and fall into place, but Barnes teams have a habit of coming together as the season goes on.
