Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Yeah I get the "who have we beaten" but like the reply is everyone except 2 top 5 teams with one being on the road...

The good news OU and Vandy are quality wins if we can get them...both are at home. And we have a bye after OU with New Mexico State the week after...we win Saturday night and I like our chances in those final 2 SEC games.
It's too bad Angeli got hurt, because I think Cuse could have been a solid win. Who knows how good they would have been.

Would be nice if ARK or State could finish and beat anybody. We kinda need Oklahoma to not fall apart and Vandy is a good win regardless.

We probably just need enough help to where it doesn't come down to us and Notre Dame...we know how that will go. I'd also say, if we beat everyone by multiple scores I think that gets us in.

Playoff football is fun!

Seems reasonable for both parties. And all likelihood he will do well and we will have to stop others from trying to steal him with a larger contract.
Agreed. He also stated several times in his press conference that his top priority was to take care of the coaches already on the staff. He probably was willing to take a little less too make sure and keep the existing staff in place. Smart move for long term success. A million plus a year in Knoxville you can live pretty well.

You ain't lying...

Collins leads the ACC in INTs for them, he's only played really in 4 games

@Ulysees E. McGill

How's your daughter and grandbaby?
Sorry...I've been busy..

Momma is fine and recovering well from the C-Section...the peanut is in the NICU at Children's, he had some normal complications that came with the circumstances..his sugar was really low, and his blood gas was out of whack because his lungs were not fully ready to work yet...but he has gotten steadily better and hopefully he will come off the vent in the next couple of days...plus he had a little jaundice which is also coming along very well

It breaks my heart to see him like that, but I know he will be fine, we just have to get through the next few days and hopefully he continues his progress and is able to go home by the beginning of next week.

Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers.

it is pretty wild that we are experiencing one of the best WR units in the history of our program this year (could end up the best) and it was this board's #1 worry going into the season
Don't forget the expectations of our defense being nearly as good as last year. Complete whiff by the fan base on both.

I can deal with some runs misfits from a young guy. Telander gets sucked in every time on PA and leaves players wide open. Perlotte has the speed to make up with mistakes and makes plays. Telander does nothing really well.
He has heart. There’s probably a photo of him out there with a cut off short, sitting on a hillside looking at a lake.

And he’s good at interviews

OU has played 1 good offense.

That offense put up 431 yards (315 passing) and 34 points on them.

Not saying Vols go off but still.
I was just about to say, "I don't think their defense is a good as their stats make them out to be. I think they can still cause us some problems, but not at the level their stats portray. We could really expose them, being a night game/dark mode at Neyland with how well our offense has been hitting."

They are kicking ass and have more help hopefully on the way next season...

It sucks that some of it is being masked by our pathetic defense

we won't have the qb for that type of season unless we go back to the portal
No one thought Aguilar would do what he's doing. Why not Mac? What if the light bulb goes off for Merk? What if Faizon is ready to roll? What if a QB sees Joey and says, that's me and transfers? We have no idea what will happen, but I get your point.

saw on X someone say that if Hood can't go, that McCoy may suit up if cleared? Said he's been trying to go the last 3 weeks but still has a bit of swelling after working the knee hard... if swelling is at a min, saying he may try... Just passing info, nothing confirmed...

What are you disputing/arguing. Good is subjective...to me Telander is, to you he isn't?

He's in year 3 and through 8 games has surpassed his best totals from any previous season. He's played in every single game he's been here. As a former 3 star player that wasn't a top 50 LB he's turned into a very good player for us. Him and Carter though are the exact same LB...they shouldn't be playing beside one another. We should have Carter OR Telander on the field beside a faster, more athletic LB with better coverage/length. That's why we see Telander biting on PA so much...if he was faster he'd be a monster. But can't teach speed or size in most players...durable and makes tackles when he makes contact.

But from a pure talent standpoint...he's probably the 3rd or 4th best LB on the team. I think Carter and Spillman are better and I think if experience was equal Perlotte would be better too.

But that doesn't mean he's terrible and doesn't do anything really well.
I like Telander. I think a lot of people would have a different opinion of him if he took a bit better angles and reacted a step sooner.

That's fine. So has every other QB this year. But guess what, Joey and this offense is going to look better and score more points than all three. The defense is what it is. Quit your handwringing and realize we are a better TEAM than all three. Good teams find ways to win, and they make up the difference when one unit struggles. Hell the defense saved the game against Mississippi State when the offense was struggling.

When we beat all three, I want a written acknowledgement by all of you Negavols who are saying there's no chance we can stop any of them. I can't wait to see the mental gymnastics when we beat them all.

"But... but.... the defense let them score 35."
Yeah well, we scored 42.
A win is a win.
Dude...NOBODY...on this board would call me a NegaVol...but even I can objectively call a spade a spade.

I want us to win as much as you do, and I think we can if everything goes well...but I'm not going to act like there are not major issues with the overall team. I'm not mad about it, I'm not ready to fire the defensive staff...but I do wonder how in the hell we can't have ANYBODY worth a single runny 💩 to play at several positions on defense..HOW can they all be this putridly bad?.

I could understand falling back to the middle of the pack with our senior and NFL losses plus the crap injuries to Mod and Gibson and the DLman to start the season...but how in the hell is it even possible to be among the worst in CFB?.

I hope somebody flips a switch and we just get at least mediocre defense the next few weeks....I don't see it happening because they somehow seem to be GETTING WORSE.

This offense can not stumble...at all...they have zero room for error or failure thanks this garbage defense we keep throwing out there, which is not fair to expect considering the quality of defenses we are going to be playing.

I will not ignore reality and the reality is this...it will be a monumental achievement for THIS team to win out with the defense playing like this.

I hope you are right...I absolutely love tasty all-you-eat crow buffet...I would gladly scarf it up every Saturday from here on out.

I’d be shocked if a team that isn’t good at running the ball tries to bully us. That won’t work out well for them. Our weakness is the pass and middle. I think they will go there all day. Like Kentucky did
I'll admit I know nothing of Oklahoma offense. But our defense has been bad against the run.

Awesome. Sounds like standard protocol. Definitely NOT standard when you’re in it tho. But that’s an awesome outlook.

Our second baby spent 8 days in NICU for lung development. You’d never know it now…
