It’s hard to say that definitively because Barnes didn’t coach to win the scrimmage. If he had, many things would have been different. Duke might be better than us, but it’s close enough that I wouldn’t bet on it, especially just based on who won Sunday.

Ament forced a lot of shots as did Jakobi.
I think Barnes told them to shoot it and get the nerves out. Let’s hope it worked.

Funny how boozer played the entire game and we were tinkering.
In a real game, Barnes is playing a totally different lineup.
I applaud both programs for making it happen.

Three things on Boozer playing as much as he did…

1) Maliq Brown didn’t play at all. He will play a ton for Duke this year.

2) Ngongba got into foul trouble. So there were literally no other bigs with him going out and Brown not playing.

3) Duke only goes about 7-8 deep. That’s how they operate and have for years. Exhibition game or not.

I agree. I just think if Duke was playing 12 players like we did we probably win, but I think their top 5-6 played significantly better than ours (making shots) and killed us on the boards in the second half

Sure. Ask him if it was more important to him to win an exhibition or to work on situations and mix up linueups to see how all the new players work together. He didn’t play his lottery pick 40 minutes to get the W either.
No need to report back as I already know.

I called the Elite 8 last year (not the year before) and I just have a gut feeling. We’re better and deeper inside than maybe ever under Barnes and have some elite scorers outside. As long as we have good shot selection, our offense will be fine. The D is consistently good under Barnes. With our length, solid effort will result in good rebounding. I truly feel this is our year. We’re good and we’re deep.

I think the potential is definitely there. We just have to put all the pieces together by the end of the year.

Both head coaches said they had specific things they wanted to work on. They both laid out what they wanted to get out of the game. Both probably preferred to win, but neither wanted to obtain a win if it meant sacrificing a chance to work on things they needed to improve on.

Exactly, so it’s hard to draw conclusions about which team is better based on the results. Figuring that out, just wasn’t the point.

We have to find a way to get baskets when we struggle behind the arc. The Houston game was a disaster, though Houston’s D has something to do with that - same with loss to FL.
