Tennessee vs Duke (Exh) Official Game Thread - 7pm ESPN2

Played a great team and Barnes played with a lot of different combinations. He’ll have a lot of teaching points from that tape, which is what he wanted. One of the most positive things that I saw was we got 3s from 2 big guys (Felix and JP). We haven’t had that in a while. Our offense often relies on our bigs to go out and set screens for our guards to drive. When they do that and are no threat at all to pop out and shoot, then the big on the other team just stands in the middle of the lane and clogs everything up (see UT vs Lurch 2 years ago-he never left the paint). If we have a threat like that it opens up the driving lanes and we have some guards who can get to the rim.

Just saw some pictures from the game. That new jumbotron is huge! If your seats are near top of the upper deck, it sure looks like your view could be obstructed.

Also, there’s no way Boozer is under 7’

I think Duke is intentionally short changing his size so he doesn’t get pegged as a big at the next level. But he looks like an NBA 4 IMO

Our main two offensive threats could not make a shot last night. That we only lost by eight was because the bench was so effective. I think Barnes was mad at Estrella after he committed the moving screen cause we didn't see much of him after that happened. Was really surprised that Boswell played so much of the game he has no offense and even if he is great on defense not great enough to prevent guys like Abrams or Henderson from playing more that he does. I would've liked to see us go big against them with both Estrella and Okpara in the game down low as they really were getting on the offensive boards in the second half of the game.

Overall was delighted to see us play so well when the shooting of our main two was so horrific and Boozer having a tremendous game. Them making over 90 percent of their free throws was impressive as well. I certainly think were at Dukes level just have to shoot and rebound better and Barnes will find the guys to do it if they are on the team.

 I am going to assume you have not watched Wemby.
Not at length, admittedly not an nba fan. That comment was really in relation to being able to hit deep jumpers/3point shots, which I think Ament could easily develop and I’m not under the impression that we by is making many of those.

did you see the during game interview with Barnes when it happened? (the moving screen) He was pissed.

Agree on the statement that Duke played as a regular game. If the coach had used this game as Barnes did, we would have won by 10-15 pts.

Duke played it like they already know who their top 7 are going to be. Not surprising when you recruit like they do, no experimenting with combinations is really needed. Just getting their "seven" in big game/big crowd shape for the future.

Barnes was being interviewed by Jimmy Dykes when Estrella was called for the moving screen and he brought up that he does it in practice.

My thought was Barnes told the refs to watch JP and call it, if questionable.

While I don’t want to lose at anything, I feel like if we can figure out the 2 we are going to be very good this year.
Bishop played about 20 minutes more than he will in the reg season. He does so many little things poorly

Brown?! WTH. He looked solid!

Ament forced a lot of shots as did Jakobi.
I think Barnes told them to shoot it and get the nerves out. Let’s hope it worked.

Funny how boozer played the entire game and we were tinkering.
In a real game, Barnes is playing a totally different lineup.
I applaud both programs for making it happen.
Love to see the crowd as big as it was

Brown is a Moose! He’s going to have a great role on this team, IMO.

Oh boy. Carries the ball *and* takes four steps before shooting that three -- so even if we count the idiotic "gather" step it's a travel. Impressive. The NBA sure is something special these days.

I don't know exactly when the "you can take as many steps as you want when you're coming to a stop to shoot" became a thing but it's just another example of what's become of the NBA -- and it's creeping into college basketball as well.
