Cool story Tony B.You can thank Larry Pratt, Chris Burke, and a few others, including the associate athletic Director for making this happen. Granted, Danny was open to it. As you heard in Danny‘s press conference, he has a chain of command. If nothing else he is faithful to that. I think there is some quick organization to get an interview outside the program over and done with quick so they could get E in the door. Once the associate AD laid it out to Danny that Elander personality Wise was going to be the fit. done deal
Tbf, Tony literally had a once in a lifetime opportunity. Don’t know if you were hinting at that or not when you were referring to bailing, but the situation he was in was literally something that never happens for anybody. Part of me thinks Tony knew deep down that DW would make the right decision as far as the next hire and knew the program would be in good hands if he took the MLB opportunity. Just pure speculation on my part, I’m not an insider.Just doing a little research and listening to those familiar with him it seems like Elander is a rockstar in the making. From what’s been said, he isn’t the personality type who will bail when a “better opportunity” is dangled before him. He’s anchored here and knows a good thing is on Rocky Top. Here’s to him having a long successful career at Tennessee! Go Base Vols!
Or.... Maybe in an effort to "take care of the remaining guys on the staff" the process had mostly been finalized before the presser? Making the statement the way he did at the time he did (in looking like he was putting pressure on coach E) he was actually taking all the pressure off him. What's odd is Whites claim about him wanting Elander to focus on the interview process and a blink of the eye later, he's named head coach. Not complaining mind you, but it does make me question White's veracity and trustworthiness....or maybe he had a tepid response to his initial calls to the guys "on his list"?
My daughter is a senior at UC, so that’s my 2nd favorite school. Glad to have you here.Cincinnati is my team after UT and I always had wanted Fickell to move on before Marcus Freeman so that Freeman would get his HC shot at UC and I thought the same would happen here with Elander getting poached before CTV eventually left. Glad it didn’t happen!! The Vols are going to continue to be freaky good!!
Any job that involves a contract rather than a term or salaried job offer does not have to be posted for 30 days, but they do have to interview more than one candidate, unless only one candidate is identified by an executive search firm. Not sure, but thought I heard in the past that the Athletic Dept was not required to follow those rules…… anybody know for sure one way or the other?
Thank you!Any job that involves a contract rather than a term or salaried job offer does not have to be posted for 30 days, but they do have to interview more than one candidate, unless only one candidate is identified by an executive search firm.
In this case, it wasn’t done to satisfy that rule, it was done to make sure that Tennessee ended up with the best person, not just the person that the crowd was yelling for.

I went from not being 100% convinced that Elander was a slam dunk hire to being convinced that he was absolutely a grand slam hire. The players’ reactions and the overwhelming support of past and present players tells me it was a no brainer decision. Congrats to Coach Elander and his family! If anyone gets the chance, go listen to the GoVols 24/7 podcast episode released yesterday with Ben, Will, and Jared Dickey. Dickey got choked up when talking about Elander, man I’m pumped about the spring.

Just shaved for the “interview”… prolly.I went from not being 100% convinced that Elander was a slam dunk hire to being convinced that he was absolutely a grand slam hire. PS. I didn’t recognize him without the beard! He looks 10 years younger and 30lbs skinnier without the beard.
