Elander had played and coached under, Schloss and coached under DVH in addition to CTV. He’s had plenty of experience and exposure to other coaches. He’s turned down smaller level HC opportunities, he’s ready for this and I’m damn glad DW made the right decision!I think it’s an over emotional response to simply say hire Josh Elander. I am not sure that’s a smart decision.
While Tony Vitello is a winner has he produced a coach that has gone out and had success elsewhere? Hiring within is risky unless that assistant coach handled the day to day. Tony was young, energetic, and not sure Anderson nor Elander has that experience.
Kevin Schall for example did. He worked under a legendary coach, left, came back as assistant head coach and ultimately ran the program for an aging icon in Gilmore. Gilmore won his first championship when Schall returned in that role. He showed his worth when Gilmore stepped down. Coastal had their best record ever and made the final.
In my business you can easily see when it’s time to promote because the manager and DM will inform you if the AM has been running the show. We could do worse than Elander but not considering other coaches with high pedigrees and a job attracting National interest is stupid. Also, Elander and Anderson could benefit tremendously from working under a different manager. It’s great exposure for their future careers.
Thanks to Tony for everything. He has elevated this job to one where proven winners want it!
LMAO! I'm glad I read this post before I started drinking. It deserves great ridicule.I think it’s an over emotional response to simply say hire Josh Elander. I am not sure that’s a smart decision.

Well, Elander is the guy! But, you’re right…lots of good options out there that I think probably would’ve gotten a better look had the job opened up within the regular “coaching carousel.”Thanks for that. Like I said I love Elander and maybe he’s the choice, but limiting options and especially fantastic ones is not smart business.
Surprised preacherman. DW has been pretty good for the baseball team ( highest paid coach , 109 million stadium renovation I mean this is a very low revenue sport. I'm just hoping after everything settles in there can be more revenue sharing and NIL . The money that's being spent all around campus is mind blowing. A lot of big time donors are spending enormous amounts of money. GBOAc
So I don’t think he is horrible so don’t attack me. I was just stating facts. I’ve never said anything bad about him. My only problem with him is his lack of relationship with coaches and players and fans but that is his personality. I’ve seen the same at HS level and usually doesn’t work out. I believe life is about relationships. So how about get to know me before you make a judgement about what I feel. All I care about is success and how my son is treated
Wtf are you talking about ? DW has done more for the Baseball program than any damn AD we ever had dude..... FACTS........... IT takes money to do this and now you are b1tching about ticket prices ? Where should it come from ? Every major program finished the year ranked in the top 25 last year and we have had the #1 AD overall the last 2 years .I think it should be a big eye opener that people close to the baseball program don’t have good things to say about Danny white. I don’t think I’ll ever like the man again, but we need to win more in football and women’s basketball needs to do better than a sweet sixteen. Aslong as those things happen you can have your money hungry AD. I won’t complain. But absolutely football and women’s basketball needs to be better for this man to continue price gouging the fans and shoving corporations down everyone’s throats. I don’t think people realize the thin line this man is tip toeing on

I thought I would be nice to the guy, after all, he did give me a few laughs.Ah yes, that scrappy young up-and-comer...Frank Anderson. Really could have used a year or two under the Oregon guy to get his name out there.
Dude is friggin Yoda over there. We're lucky he hasn't decided to fade away into a force ghost yet.
Well I'm almost 50 years old, so your response is nonsense and condescending. Comparing that hire made by a completely incompetent AD during a terrible time in UT athletics in literally zero ways compares to this situation. White knows what he is doing, unlike Mike Hamilton the moron.i can tell by your reply that you must be a new Vol Fan, so welcome!!! I have been around long enough to remember when Lane Kiffin left, in a similar time frame as far as bad timing for the program and while most intelligent people i heard suggested that just promote an interim coach and get through the year and see where things are was the prudent move, the powers that be said nope, gotta go hire a coach real quick to keep things together. I guess we see looking back how that went. But as i say, I am sure that was before your time, so there is your history lesson for the day. Oh, and the hire they 'had to make' was Derik Dooley. Way to go guys!! Put Elander in, give him a shot and if it falls off a cliff, make a change next year when you can conduct a real search and have a shot at real candidates. hiring someone for the sake of hiring someone this time of year out of a limited candidate pool is administrative stupidity
