The Vols travel to Kentucky to take on the Wildcats on Saturday night. Tennessee enters pretty healthy on offense. Radarius Jackson has practiced this week and Ethan Davis has not been in a non-contact jersey this week. Both are still questionable for the game, but they are closer to playing than they have been. To the point that we expect Davis to be good to go having been cleared for contact. Travis Smith remains out and there’s no concrete timetable for his return although he is expected back this season.
With the probable return of Davis, the tight end rotation will be interesting as Jack Van Dorselaer has gotten Davis’ snaps and last week we saw plenty of potential late in the game with fellow freshman DaSaahn Brame who had three catches for 38 yards.
The injury concern is at linebacker where Arion Carter is dealing with turf toe in both feet and is questionable. We feel like it’s a long shot if he plays in this one. He’s not been 100% for several weeks. Ben Bolton who was injured in the first series of the game last week, is questionable as well which means you could see more Jadon Perlotte at linebacker as his snap count has been increasing over the last couple of weeks. You could also see some run for Jaedon Harmon, although it sounds like they need to see more out of him on the practice field.
“Ultimately, Jaedon has done a really good job on special teams,” Heupel said. “Proof of your product is in your preparation on the practice field, too. And Jaedon is a guy that we love inside of our building. I just want to see continued growth from him.”
One of the challenges for the linebackers this week is Kentucky’s tight ends and running backs in the passing game. Last week, tailback Seth McGowan had seven catches out of the back field. McGowan is listed as questionable for this week, but they used him a lot against Texas. Kentucky also ran some hurry up offense against the Longhorns.
Quarterback Joey Aguilar has practiced all week and there is no concern there after he played through a lot of discomfort from the second quarter on last week.
It won’t be a surprise if you see William Wright get a series or two at corner to spell Ty Redmond. In the fourth quarter against Alabama, the coaching staff went to Wright as Redmond has been getting picked on and hasn’t played as well as he did early in the year.
Jesse Perry has continued to rep at both offensive guard and offensive tackle again this week and will likely play both Saturday night.
