Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I know...and that was because of Tony. I really hope Elander gets the job, and can continue to build out the program.

If White goes another direction...then I hope whoever he hires has the right mojo to pick up where Tony left it. I know Tony ain't the only great head baseball coach in the college game....so just gotta go find that dude if he's not already on the team.
Well, I guess if there's a silver-lining it will be whoever DW hires won't have to compete against Tony Vitello.

Tony didn't provide $1 of the $100M going into LNS. He didn't provide any of the money that puts us at the top of recruiting. He didn't provide any of the money that puts us ahead in NIL. Yet all of those things are important to being elite and without them there would be no CWS...with or without Tony. Those things came from Randy Boyd and Danny White, and we still have them. Other schools in the SEC also win at a high level, and none of them had Tony. Honestly, we'll be fine.
Hope so...we sure as hell NEVER were worth a 💩 in baseball before Tony. If they hire the right guy, then yeah....we could be fine, if they don't it will not be fine at all....it will suck donkey ***.

I'm not stupid...I know Tony ain't the only coach that could do a great job and put great teams on the field, but you better sure as hell find that other guy that can, or it will fall apart really quick and we will go back to being a totally irrelevant CBB doormat again.

Only issue I have with that is clearly in his heart of hearts he did want to leave bc that’s what he chose.

Doesn’t mean it was an easy decision but that was his decision. And it’s not like it was a snap decision.
Eh, don’t know that I necessarily agree .

People make decisions all the time to do something. Not because they “want” to, but because it’s in their best interest. They make the painful choice, because it’s the correct choice. I know I have in my life.

We don’t actually know Tony’s heart, but Low saying it lends credence imo.

I just don’t think we can say - “he left, so therefore he wanted to leave”.

But, whether he really wanted to or not, he did in fact leave. I’m guessing there are things he could have done differently as well.

I don't know why you think that this program is going back to being a doormat no matter who DW hires to take over for Tony. We aren't investing like a top 3 baseball program to get less-than-top-3 results. If the next guy can't keep it rolling, I'm sure we'll find someone who can. There are not many places in the country that invest into baseball at the level Tennessee now does. I'm not sure why you think that's going to stop because someone else will be the coach.

You left off: “…compete against Tony Vitello until at least Year 3.”

TV will be back in college sports quicker than we think and he’ll probably end up at some 💩hole like Bama or Arkansas, begin a dynasty, and retire with 3-4 WCS rings and basically be the next Nick Saban of college baseball. WWE couldn’t write this script any better.

Well, I certainly don't know that for sure. Tony hasn't really failed at anything he's tried before. I don't believe in your ability to see into the future anymore than my own.

I think ultimately as long as Elander can successfully convey his vision he’ll get the nod. It’s got DW hire written all over it. Younger, energetic, exciting brand of ball. No idea how analytics focused he is but that’s also something DW values.

But the names are fun to talk about.
Names are fun. Are we being at all arrogant with some of the names?

CBB is a different animal than CFB, but we’ve gotten some good chuckles out of other fanbases “moving down” their boards 🤷‍♀️

Is it so hard to believe that he wanted to make history? He's the first to jump from college to the pros in coaching. He's got a CWS championship under his belt, is it hard to believe the temptation to chase a MLB WS championship is there? There are only 30 MLB teams. This is a unique situation. It's not like he was lured away by another college. MLB is the pinnacle of baseball.

The thing is, I love the game of baseball, it was my first sports love...the insane and stupid unfairness of the MLB financial system ruined that for me, but thanks to Tony building us into a powerful and super fun baseball program, that love was getting rekindled...Tony made CBB matter to me.

I hope it doesn't come crashing down now, but I just don't have much hope that we will continue to be an elite baseball program. Imo it has not been built long and strong enough to have the kind of foundation which can withstand this.
Tony has built an unbelievable culture of continuity and competitiveness. His staff - Elander, Frank, Q and Kivett have also basically been here since the beginning of it. And the FORMER PLAYERS, like CMO who were in it every day, have literally told us Elander was the “glue that held it together”. That’s verbatim from Christian Moore’s mouth. I think Elander is an absolute superstar and an ELITE recruiter. Watch and see McGill!

Any of yall watch "Camping with Steve", Steve Wallis? He makes some decent videos. He's had a rough couple years. . .

This man said, "I hate prime numbers. They're so abrasive. You can't even divide them by anything."

I don't know why I find that so hilarious but I do.

Now, the 90’s and early 00’s were good times. We can easily be one of the top programs annually. We just needed a spark, and Tony was the perfect fit.

Tony didn't come in, flip the roster, and win the CWS. Tennessee didn't really start making major noise until the '22 season...the year after DW was hired. Not saying DW did it. Just suggesting that it may be more of a team effort than we give them credit for.
