If you watched what he said and you defend DW, I don't know what to say. He talked to Tony V 1 time in the last 5 days! Disgraceful
Nah, I’ll take Chris Burke at his word. Someone who is a true Vol and loves Tennessee and TV. Not some accountant in a suit who doesn’t give a damn about Tennessee and will be on to his next job in the next 5 years. And apparently a number of you don’t believe anything coming out of the mouths of those who are actually involved in the situation. But you will quickly take the word of someone’s 2nd-cousin’s wife’s brother-in-law. Good grief.
If you are questioning DW in anyway then GTFO! He’s the best AD in college and it’s not close. TV wanted a shot at the pros and good for him. I hate we lost him but it’s business at the end of the day! You can think what you want but UT cannot match a major league salary for a manager!
No it is the most UT thing for a weak non-leader AD like DW to push out a natty winning coach. If you follow the legit people who know, it seems like Voltello was fed up with working for a weasel. Watch the press conference. DW led…LED with finances. Did not lead with a thank you or concern for the players. He has no idea what he is looking for in a baseball coach. He just killed the culture of our baseball program. He has no concern for the common fan. Behind the scenes he has said some idiotic things about the program. He should do everything he can to hire Elander. We are in trouble as an institution fellas. If you can’t see that I don’t know what to tell you. Plowman and Boyd should have stepped in and fired him and kept Tony. We are on shakier ground than many of you realize.I saw a Tweet that said it was the most Tennessee thing ever for the first coach to jump directly from college to MLB be our coach.
Good grief - the guy was here 8 seasons and won everything there was to win. It wasn't like he had 1 or 2 awesome seasons, but fell short of a championship, then bounced.
I had to go back and rewatch the pc, and I will grant you that he did say he primarily has specific program administrators that maintain contact with the coach for the program they administer during the normal course of business, but I never heard him specifically say he had not talked to Tony regarding this situation. He said Tony had been communicating with him regularly throughout this process, and as I said in another reply, I seriously doubt those were one-way conversations. He did say he doesn’t typically become “chummy” with assistant coaches as he believes a hierarchy should be maintained in how communication is passed along to subordinates of a head coach. Given the current situation, he did say he had spoken with Frank and with Elander over the past couple of days regarding the way forward if Tony did leave.Wrong, AD does talk to a coach when a coach is considering leaving. DW should have been talking to him every day the last week, not sending someone else like he said at press conference

"Push out" a natty winning coach? He's taking probably the 5th or 6th best MLB job, for crying out loud.No it is the most UT thing for a weak non-leader AD like DW to push out a natty winning coach. The talking about the budget/recruiting success was pure ego stroking and pettiness. Danny is well aware of all the discourse obviously, that was a direct shot at those questioning him giving Tony enough resources. We recruited that well because of 1) Tony 2) Tony 3) Tony’s staff 4) Tony 5) NIL."Push out" a natty winning coach? He's taking probably the 5th or 6th best MLB job, for crying out loud.
I don't know if you actually watched the presser, but he led with a congratulations for TV, and then mentions those budget numbers in the context of when Tony first got there (which he explicitly mentions) relative to what they are today.
His presser today was a L for him, but not for the reasons you mentioned, which are inaccurate.
And how do you know beyond the shadow of a doubt that the communication was, or was not, face-to-face? Were you there? Was Chris Burke there? Or this anonymous booster? I know I wasn’t there so I don’t know if they did or didn’t meet face-to-face. I’ll take DW’s word that they had been communicating with each other about this.Communicating and meeting in person with Tony is two different things
I don't disagree with any of that. The OP just said he "didn't lead with a thank you" which was just flatly untrue. The talking about the budget/recruiting success was pure ego stroking and pettiness. His ego has him actually believing he could hire someone else that could replicate Tony’s success. He should’ve stopped after congratulating Tony.
Because DW said he talked with Tony this morning. At the risk of flogging a dead horse, I’ll agree he did say he had talked to Tony this morning - but he never said he had not talked to him at any point over the past several days. As for CB and the booster, I’ll reiterate the point that neither of them were directly involved in any of that communication, so neither of them knows specifically what was or was not said.Because DW said he talked with Tony this morning. Him taking a pay cut speaks more than anybody will admit. So far all we have heard is DW. If he screws this hire up then they better get those black curtains out because they are going to need then and maybe put LNS upgrades on hold. Elander should have been hired today.I keep seeing people talk about Tony’s salary and it is a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation. Tony is taking a pay cut to leave Tennessee when you consider taxes and cost of living. Tony’s concerns were never about how much he was being paid.

Less shaky than before he was hired. Schools have tried to poach our AD. Guess you want to go back to 2018 and before. That’s what you deserve instead of the everything school. Tony was given nil and fair rev share and was highest paid in his profession at one point and second now. He was given tons and it wasn’t enough. If I did that for an employee and he didn’t appreciate it or wanted to leave, kick him to the curb. The AD handled this like a businessman which he should.
